Three 45W Athlon II spotted in Japan
A simple review on AMD Athlon II X4 605e

AMD's energy efficient CPUs have always carried a price premium over their regular CPUs. In Japan, the 235e is priced from $75-82, the 240e from $86-91, and 605e from $157-$169 (ouch!).

The 45w quad core is what I've been waiting for. Assuming these prices are on par with what we'll get here in the US, that's a heftier price tag that I expected. That's either because the supply of stable low voltage Athlon II X4s is pretty rare, or ironically, because there is no competition from Intel in the 45w TDP market.

Anyway, I couldn't find any info on a specific release date for the US.

Ya, that does sound a bit steep. Usually the premium is just a few dollars.

I can't say for sure, but I read some where AMD is releasing the Athlon II X3 when Windows 7 launches. I believe some of the energy efficient chips from Athlon II X2 and X4 were included in that launch.

Out of my range if true. With the 620 running as low as $89 right now, I would take my chances by underclocking and undervolting a 620 vs paying almost double for the 605e.

Ya, when I went to buy an X2, the 4850e and the 5200 were the same price. I got the 5200, overclocked it by a couple hundred mhz and lowered the voltage to below 4850e levels. I had an older 4850e that I put in my dads computer because his board had no voltage mod capability.
