I figure this case deserves it’s own thread though we’ve discussed it a bit in the DeSantis “don’t say gay” thread.
Backstory:
Texas AG (and all-around pathetic excuse for a public servant) Ken Paxton offers an “opinion” (I.e. no law) that said providing medical treatments like puberty-suppressing drugs and hormones to transgender teenagers should be investigated as child abuse. No public comment period, no consultation with public health authorities or doctors—nothing. Just one sad sack’s opinion.
Enter Greg Abbott! In his infinite wisdom, the governor informs all state health agencies (including the Dept of Family and Protective Services—the guys who can take your children away) that medical treatments provided to transgender adolescents should now be classified as “child abuse” under existing state law and violations need to be reported.
Abbott specified that the reporting requirements applied to “all licensed professionals who have direct contact with children who may be subject to such abuse, including doctors, nurses, and teachers, and provides criminal penalties for failure to report such child abuse.”
This all happened within a week. Basically, parents of trans kids are now child abusers if they allow their minor children any standard gender-affirming medical treatments (which are proven to lead to better health outcomes and fewer suicides for said children.)

The investigations by the state’s Department of Family and Protective Services, which have not been previously reported, were launched in response to an order from Mr. Abbott to the agency, the lawsuit says.”
Wow…that was quick! How was DFPS tipped off so quickly, you ask? Because the target is one of their employees!!!
“Among the first to be investigated was an employee of the state protective services agency who has a 16-year-old transgender child. On Tuesday, the American Civil Liberties Union of Texas and Lambda Legal went to state court in Austin to try to stop the inquiry.
The employee, who was not named in the court filing, works on the review of reports of abuse and neglect. She was placed on administrative leave last week, according to the filing, and on Friday was visited by an investigator from the agency, which is also seeking medical records related to her child. The family of the child, identified in court documents only as Mary Doe, has refused to voluntarily turn over the records.”
