I'm liking the format, but I'm surprised people don't attack Romney about the gay marriage issue more.

if it were me, it'd be like...

Romney: did you or did you not raise taxes?
Me: yeah, well, at least my state didn't pass the first gay marriage law in the nation under my watch! ohsnap!

I am not watching it, it is not affiliated with nor being endorsed by the NH GOP.

I didn't want this thread to be a carry-over from the other thread about RP, but I don't think the endorsement of the NH GOP makes what the candidates say in the debate any less real.

As if the 'endorsement' of the NH GOP makes a difference.

It's been pretty good so far.

DAMNITT I WISH I WENT DOWN THERE!! It is only about 45 minutes from me. See the ron pauls people marching outside the focus group room?

Wow, are Fox and Romney butt buddies or something? Romney tanked this debate, and they are treating him as a god after his "stellar performance." Has anyone else seen the plethora or Romney ads on their website?

I was starting to wonder if they were creaming themselves over Mitt Romney as well... it kinda pisses me off. I thought it started at 8PM PST so I missed it. Anyone know when they are going to replay it?

As I look at the Republican debates, I have almost only one criteria. Which candidate, if elected, would send the neocons packing out of Washington D.C.?

Romney, Thompson, Giuliani, and Hunter would embrace the neocons. Ron Paul certainly would. Definetely send them packing. And to a lesser extent so would McCain or Huckabee.

Romney has been Kerryed. He's done. You can smell it through the way he talks that he's a talented used car salesmen running for president.

McCain really intrigued me when he said "radical islamic extremism" for the billionth time. Scaring votes works but not when its all you've got.

Huckabee found the populism missing in the other candidates and has an opening. His policies are also good enough for many conservatives, but different enough that he can run on the change ticket.

Thompson knows best, or else you'd think it by the way he talks. Tries to play the tough conservative but people can see right through it, remember that ad he ran smoking a cigar and responding to some stupid comment somebody made? Go get 'em, Fred.

Guiliani's strategy might work because the party is so fractured, but he doesn't have the same appeal that usually puts Republicans in the White House.

Right now I see Guiliani being able to win strategically (no clear winner in the other states and he goes on to steal Florida and some others), but Huckabee is performing better. Even with the absurd mistakes he has made, Huckabee knows how to sell it when he is on.

Huckabee should have went on the offensive on Romney. But he doesn't want to come across as "attacking". $500million over 10.5 years isnt what Id call tax increases, Id call it keeping up with inflation.

Romney has been misleading and dishonest in his ads and his comparisons with himself. Lowered taxes but increases fees to $248million(he said) or over half a billion(according to Wallace), in 4 years. Their records on "taxes" are quite similar. Who was considered by everyone the better Governer? Huckabee.

Huckabee isnt a neo-con. Huckabee isnt a mainstream republican.

Huckabee is evangelical, and he supports staying in Iraq but that is where the comparisions end with Bush.

Everyone on the left attacks Huckabee because hes anti-gay/pro-life "evangelical". I got news for ya, thats been part of the GOP Platform since 1976 thanks to Reagan.

Huckabee is a populist republican, which hasnt worked so well in the past, but seems to be working better this time around.

The Republican Power Players opposed Huckabee because it will redefine the party away from the Neocons and partisan wedge issue republicans.

They know that Romney is not really a good competitor against Rudy, who they want to get the nomination. But Huckabee could be, and by beefing up Romney, they can slim down Huckabee, because those two have been beating up on each other a bit.

It is not so much that this is the desire of FoxNews, but the people that control FoxNews.

One of Fox News reporters called Huckabee to much of a hick(because of his name), three months ago. Fox News does NOT supprot Huckabee, because like you said the people that control Fox News are Republican Power Players who want to keep the status quo. They vhemently oppose a Populist Republican.

Wreckem, thats exactly what I said---Hickabee and McCain are pragmatic enough to not be duped by neocons. And Ron Paul would definitely firmly reject them.

And neocons would find fertile ground in Guiliani, Hunter, Thompson, and Romney turning them into stupid GWB like pawns if the American people were ever stupid enough to elect them.

This is true, Ann Coulter seems to be as much against him as she is Clinton or Edwards. I have made it a point to never read her columns, but I saw one about her bashing Huckabee and wanted to see what the far-right had to say about him, they are unhappy basically everything.

Coulter, Rush, et al vhemently oppose Huckabee(and McCain), because they will redefine the GOP, which will push Coulter, Rush et al, all out the door.

The GOP needs to be redefined after the last 7 years.

The neo-cons are actually very good strategists. Sometimes they appear not to be, but most of the time when that happens, we only see them as inept because we aren't judging their decisions from the same point of view.

For example, the war in Iraq. We saw the strategy of sending roughly 150K troops in there instead of the stated desired number of 4 or 500K to be dumb and inept. As well, the tossing away of the rest of the old Iraqi military. Because the war has now lasted a lot longer because of these strategies. But I believe this was not due to ineptness, but it was done by those in power to actually make the war longer, on purpose. The longer the war, the more it costs. The more it costs, the bigger the profits for those who do so from war.

So sometimes when we see what we perceive to be bad policies and just plain foolishness from government officials, we aught to re-consider what we think their motives may actually have been before passing judgment.

I wasn't going to watch it because I had other things to do, but hearing other people whine about not watching it, and giving their garbage reason for not doing so, made me decide to check it out. I wasn't disappointed :) great debate

Rudy is what scares the hell out of me. When we say that Bush has been the worst president ever, we only can do so because we haven't seen 4 years of Rudy yet.

He is truly a man who does not understand foreign policy. He is a neo-con's wet dream.

I wish McCain and Huckabee has more money to run ads against Romney, not attack ads, but ads showing their true records. Romney himself at the debate said he didnt tell the full story. I believe it was "I only have 30 seconds, I dont have time to tell the full story".

Im sorry, but if Romney gets the nomination, Id be tempted to vote Obama(if he gets the nomination), or just not vote in Presidential race. Not like it matter because Texas will overwhelmingly vote for any GOP candidate...

I just watched the replay of the debate and I have to say the "Post Forum Coverage" is complete bullshit. Fox and Romney have to be in bed together. Romney didn't do that well imo. I don't hate him, but he isn't my number one.

Huckabee really appears to be likable in a "I'm everyones neighbor, relative, coworker" kind of way.

He really seems to be a champion of the middle class and has Bill Clinton likability.

I'm starting to really like the guy, he appears to be a straight shooter, no waffling, no political posturing. I was a big Fred supporter but Huckabee has me listening!
