jamming in Iraq

"WASHINGTON ? Iraq may have obtained as many as 2,400 electronic "jammers" that could throw America's smart bombs off their programmed path if the U.S. goes to war, Fox News has learned."

Story

I thought that Cruise missiles were virtually invincible as far as targeting goes.

If GPS is jammed, the internal INS systems will allow them to continue onto their targets, abit with slightly less accuracy.

Civilian GPS is easy to jam, that is what the commercial jammers catch. Military GPS runs on an entirely different setup, so the jammers may not do much.

So Iraq is going to alter that paths of our guided munitions to kill their own people when we intended to hit strategic military targets instead? Sounds to me like they're gonna kill their own people like they always have.

i don't know about invincible. i imagine if people could create the smart bomb technology, there will also be some sort of technology developed to defend against it...

Yeh you would thing they military would have it set up to communicate on a wide range of frequencies that can be easily switched, then again these things are made by the lowest bidder. I am sure the Iraqis don't want to send up to many jamming signals anyway, cause we have bombers that can see where that crap is coming from.

I don't know about that story, but Greta Van Hotcakes looks good....

Maybe that?s why they call it the ?Fox network? 😉

Seriously though since most military hardware has some form of counter measure device installed. I think that this diversion might be kind of like shooting yourself in the foot to spite your face kind of thing. No?
