He really needs to be suspended for 2-4 games

He LEADS WITH HIS HELMET

This is what, his 4th or 5th violation - of the policy that was basically created because of him?

also - shame on the NFL, and shame on the Browns medical staff, for letting Colt McCoy go back in that game when he had clearly suffered a concussion

The bigger story to me is Colt coming back in. It sounds like the Browns trainers didn't even run a concussion test, but then asked that to dim the lights at the press conference for him. At the press conference, he said he couldn't remember the hit. There needs to be a "concussion station" at every game. Any time timeout is called to deal with an injury or hit above the shoulders, that player must go to that corner, when he will be evaluated by a non-team trainer before he's allowed back in.

I get that these people are willing participants in a sport that pays them a lot of money, but OSHA has safety requirements for workers as well, even though those people choose to be there.

As a side note, I'm bothered by the idea that QBs and WRs are protected against hits to the head, but RBs are not. Mendenhall took some nasty hits to the head on that goal line stand.

I thought the rule was only for "defenseless receivers."

Earlier in the game, there was a helmet-to-helmet hit by the Browns on a Pittsburgh linebacker in their attempt to score from the 2 yard line...no flags were thrown.

Harrison has lots of money. He LIKES giving it to Roger Goodell...(and hopefully, the Steelers compensate him for every fine)

Clearly Harrison's one of Steelers' top paying cleaners. It's nothing personal Colt, it's just business. Your QB's hurt, which drops your winning percentage, you send your top cleaner out to take out their QB, which increases your winning percentage. This is not rocket science people.

He was looking like he was running the ball, then chickened out at the last moment when he saw Harrison coming. Nothing to see here.

I thought this was football you bunch of pansies.

So you think that the NFL should ignore the fact that an increasing number of players are getting this decades after they retire.

Agreed, but that doesn't make it acceptable. I don't have a good solution except to say that perhaps there needs to be greater in-game consequences to causing concussions. However, your description could also work for taking out a player's knees, yet that does not happen very often. My feeling is that there's an attitude that taking out someone's knees is unfair but that a hit to the head is somehow OK.

I didn't see the game, but yeah - anyone who repeatedly leads their helmet into another players helmet needs to sit for a game or two and think about it.

The game should be won on the merits of player skill, execution of a game plan, and the ability to make adjustments on the fly. Relying on injuring players to better your chances is not only cowardly but thoroughly despicable. In a physical game it's obvious that incidental injuries will occur. But when the same player has an established pattern of causing the same injury then something needs to be done about it. People want to see the best players in the game, not them getting sidelined by cheap shots.

James Harrison is becoming the Matt Cooke of the NFL.

Would be my thought as well.

The sad thing is Harrison continues to do it as though it's uncontrollable. The reality is, he is one of the only players that does it CONSISTENTLY. There are good, solid, hard hits. And there are assholes like Harrison that try to cause serious damage to the head.

I dunno, I've seen enough football to know that this guy is a grade A jackass. No one is saying he can't tackle hard. He simply needs to stop going for helmet to helmet shots.

You can tell me that Suh is dirty, and I believe he is proving to be more and more as time goes on. But, IMO, what Harrison has been doing the past few years is much, much worse.

Yeah, shame on cleveland for putting him back in. I had a concussion last year at volleyball nationals and wanted to finish out another match. It was my sole discretion to continue to compete but I had no business out on the court.

This guy came onto the local chicago sports radio station (670 the score) and you could really get a good appreciation for how much James Harrison knob he slobbered on when writing the story.

“I get dinged about three times a year and don’t know where I am for a little minute. But unless I’m asleep, you’re not getting me out of the game, and most guys feel the same way. If a guy has a choice of hitting me high or low, hit me in the head and I’ll pay your fine. Just don’t hit me in the knee, ‘cause that’s life-threatening. How’m I going to feed my family if I can’t run?”

Consider it the concussion a favor, because it could have been a blown out knee.

Why not put the shoulder in the numbers where it belongs? Hell, you could even wrap your arms around the torso and drive your legs through.

Oh wait, I forgot... the only human body parts that exist are the knee and the head. Got it.

Apparently you forgot that NFL defensive men are just human missiles, no arms or shoulders, just point and shoot. I hate seeing tackling like that too but they just like to lay big hits and that's the best way of accomplishing that.

He needs to be suspended for the rest of the year.

It's also the best way to create long lasting mental side effects for former players.

To me, Harrison is an ignoramus. He should be suspended for a season. Either figure it out, or retire. His arguments are about as ridiculous as they come. There are 1500 players in the league, and 1 name keeps coming up on helmet to helmet hits.

While I appreciate your humorous comment about their being no arms or shoulders, I can say there are a number of players who make a lot of clean "hits" that aren't wrap up tackles. Harrison even has made his fair share. But the vicious helmet to helmet shots need to stop. That is something that seriously can impact an individual's long term health.

Some of the hits he's been fined for a just ridiculous. The drew brees hit was a joke. He barely touched him. The Massoquoi hit shouldn't have been a penalty. Harrison went for a tackle around the waste and Massoquoi lowered his head into Harrison.

James Harrison was born 15 years too early.

Could you imagine Paul Taglibue trying to regulate Lawrence Taylor, Harry Carson or even Mike Singletary in their prime.
