The Canadian native who played Montgomery “Scotty” Scott, the Enterprise’s engineer who spoke in a thick brogue, was a member of the Royal Canadian Artillery force that landed on Juno Beach on D-Day. Walking with his unit across a mine field, they came under attack by German machine gun fire. He was hit four times in the leg, the middle finger of his right hand was shot off, and a bullet hit him in the chest. He was saved when that bullet hit the silver cigarette case in his shirt pocket which his brother had given him.

And you will now notice that he basically does everything with his left hand and hides his right hand on the show.

What a great guy though. Hard to imagine a show today casting a guy with a missing finger like that today. RIP

Now every time I watch an old Trek I will be looking for it

Terrible injury, there. Just Imagine... having to go through one's entire adult life...

Unable to properly flip people off. :banghead:

Wow, I never knew that before. That could easily have been written into the character's backstory, instead of hiding the hand.

Never knew that either but did know about Radar in MASH TV series about his hand.

New about this long ago, first time I've seen a pic of it though.

That may be the most photoshopped-looking real picture I've ever seen.

Oh, this is a real pic? The hand isn't even the correct angle or appropriate size. Also at that age I thought he had liver spots all over his hands.

I saw that image a while back on another site, and I just figured it was just one of those thrown together pics to illustrate the point of the article.

Oh nvm, here is is the original.
