I just received my copy of James Bond 007 Nightfire for the PC and must say, it's sweet, while the game engine is based on Half-Life, gameplay, enemy AI & graphics are improved 100% IMHO. Anyone else pick it up for the PC today? And before you ask why I'm here posting and not playing, I'm only taking a "small" break :)

Holy moly, based on the "half life" engine? That's the quake1/quake2 engine! How old are those engines, anybody?

I'm not sure but EA themselves didn't develop the game, it was done by Gearbox Software.

:D

Cool. If the game is really good, I just need to get a decent Radeon card to play it.

It's sweet, eh? I might have to check it out. I've not played any of the Bond games since Goldeneye like 6 years ago.

Think I'll pass and pick up the $15 MOH:AA assault expansion at BB tomorrow.

Eh, still think I'll pick it up. For 15 bucks, even if it is only 4 hours long, it should be worth it. Especially if those 4 hours were of the same quality of the original game. BTW, you mean we're supposed to stay on-topic in OT ;)

Yeah that was the thought Dudd ;)

Enjoy Spearhead while it lasts because it won't be very long :(

SuperCommando, if your last Bond experience was Goldeneye on the N64 and you enjoyed it, pick up Nightfire, back to the roots=good :)

Ok, I just got done playing with the Demo

I have to say I think this game is not very good.

First and foremost... it seems unrealistic. There is no blood at all. When I shoot someone and dont see blood that just turns me off. Its enough to kill the whole game for me.

Second, its hard to tell when your actually hitting someone, because there isnt much response to the shots. You dont see blood or damage of any kind on the bodies, and sometimes when you shoot someone it doesnt even register

next AI is terrible. As soon as you fire at one guy, every enemy in the area just starts running in cricles around buildings and such, sometimes they will just turn and run from you so you can shoo them in the back

also, play control is bad. Weapons dont look very good either. you never feel like your actually firing a weapon

Now with all this said, I am VERY dissapointed. I am a huge bond fan and I havent had a good bond game experience since golden eye. I had hopes for this one, but it is garbage in my opinion. For those ofyou that like it, thats great, im glad you do but I think this is a poorly made game.

Johnbear007, while I respect your opinion, you only played the "demo" from your post so while I say you're entitled to your opinion. As a player that has the "gold/released" version, I disagree w/ a point or two that you made. First off, as a fan of the 007 movies, I don't expect blood to be a deciding factor. When I play Nightfire and I don't register a head-shot, I do see reaction from the enemies. As for horrible AI, while I admit it's not perfect, when I shoot an enemy, the backup enemies usually find a position that hides them from the regular, "stand and look at the barrel of my gun" stupidity that I have seen in other games. Just my personal opinin on the game, we're each entitled to them :)

Unless there is a difference you can describe to me about the game that isnt in the Demo, im not sure how my opinion is any less accurate or meaningful than yours.

Im not looking to gratuitous violence, but honestly when there is not blood that is SO unrealistic that it loses any immersivness for me. I need to see someones brain splatter across my face, but at least show me a red splotch so I know that I actually hit the enemy.

If this game were on my gamecuve I would understand, but I want a different play experience from a PC game and this simply isnt mature enough for me.

I wish I could look past it, because it seems like an otherwise solid game, but no damage on the enemies is a total deal breaker for me. And you kind of alluded to the idea that blood might not be in the spirit of the bond franchise. I have to disagree with that. There has been blood in nearly all of the bond movies that have been mad in the last 2 or 3 decades and as far as games go there was even blood in the venerable GoldenEye for the N64.

Im not trying to rain on your parade, I am very happy for you, its great that the game exceeds your expectations, but I am personally dissapointed in it.

In the demo, the AI is pathetic. I sniped a bad guy who was 5 feet away from his buddy. His buddy literally walks right over his deceased partner like nothing is happening. The programmers must have based the bad guys reactions on the players proximity.

This dude is right - I have the full game and it isn't really any different than what he described. I had a firefight with a few guys on the first level while you're still out in the snow outside the building and after 5 minutes of wandering realized that there was still one dude just casually standing on some stairs by a door, doing nothing. I walked right up to him and shot him in the face. (no blood, I agree sucks)

Other dudes will start shooting at you before you can see them - it's kind of annoying. I've unloaded over 100 rounds at one dude standing in the middle of a courtyard from what I'd estimate would be 50 feet if it were real life and he just stood there - neither of my guns did anything to him until I got up closer to him - yet he was not startled at all by the firing that had just gone on....

Overall it should be a fun game but it leaves some to be desired, that's for sure.

damn, the responses dont' seem very good.

I'm currently downloading the demo. Some guys on eboutique website say even with Radeon 97000 its choppy and lags.

I hope mine works okay. I'm a HUGE HUGE Bond fan and would love to see a great PC version of the game. Goldeneye for N64 was BAD A55 cuz i would play my roomates we'd play 4 at a time. I owned on temple with grenade launchers and mines! If there was a pc version that was multiplayer thru the net that would be so awesome.

IGN says the same thing the other dude did about the demo..

In the full game they say the AI is a total waste.

They gave the game a 7 out of 10 and rated it average.
