Those of you who know of James Michener at all likely know him as an author of novels like "Hawaii "and "The Drifters."

But he was a native son to my adopted home of Doylestown (he was adopted himself!), and he graduated from and left his estate to Swarthmore College, where I went. Indeed, his daughter Willa was in my class there.

Anyway, we have an art museum here named in his honor. Bucks County has a long and storied history of art and culture. Today was the next to last day for an exhibition of Bucks artists that everyone who had gone said was an awesome "can't miss," that is . . . of course, if you like that sort of thing.

I do.

It's not a good substitute for seeing it in person, but if you care to, you can explore it in depth on-line.

I'm certainly glad I finally went. :)

I went there several years ago to an earlier exhibit of these paintings. Well worth checking out if you're into that sort of thing.

Also noted is the Moravian Tile Works and the Mercer Museum.

Half of 150 paintings were on loan from private collections specifically sourced for this particular exhibit and had never been seen before at the Michener.

And, oh yes, the Moravian Tile Works and the Mercer Museum are also unique and mesmerizing.

Henry Mercer was a truly concrete kind of guy.* ;) :p

*Fonthill Castle is entirely made of concrete, inside and out. I've never seen anything else like it anywhere.
