NFL draft bust JaMarcus Russell is attempting a comeback

One of the biggest draft busts in NFL history is trying to re-kindle his football career. Yahoo! Sports has learned that JaMarcus Russell is planning a comeback attempt that he hopes will see him play in the league again. The former No. 1 pick in the 2007 NFL draft has not played a single NFL snap since the 2009 season with the Oakland Raiders.

Currently at 308 pounds, Russell is down from the 320 pounds he weighed this past fall and has been focusing on cardio conditioning the past six weeks to lose the weight.

Looks like a good fit for the Jets.

No one will even give him a workout.

2 teams did... in 2010.

But yea the guy is a drug addict and an idiot. Whonder score was 24, addicted to cough syrup, and fat/lazy.

I'm guessing he has run out of money and trying to get another top off of cash.

Pro Bowl level talent, about as good of an arm as you'll ever see. Wasn't particularly good in college, wouldn't spend a dime on him if I was a GM.

Russel is a complete idiot. All the speed, strength, skill etc is useless to a QB if you're an idiot. Combine that with addiction to drank (and who knows what else), laziness and weight problems, and you'd have to be certifiably insane to even contemplate signing him.

There has never been a good QB near 300lbs.

I think Cullpepper was pushing 280 in those years he was cleaning house with Randy Moss. It's not 300...but he was a big boy.

Could do well at Defensive End in a hybrid scheme. Wonder if he still has his speed (the footspeed, not the meth kind). Could be interesting to see him in a hybrid DE/OLB position being able to actually drop back into coverage against those big TE's.

Dear god, what the fuck am I doing trying to rationalize this?!

“The last few years, the things going through my life, football is my job and it is how it feeds my family. People would say [that] I didn’t love the game but that pisses me off. People don’t know the real you but I want people to know the real me and see what I can do. People are always saying that I’m a bust. I want show them I’m not. I’m committed to this now.”

There are some pretty awful QB's in the league. Would not be surprised if he got lots of looks.

looks like someone ran out of money. He'd have to get back in the 260's to have anyone take a real look at him

300+ pounds? Damn the guy got big. He wasn't good when he was in shape, so how good can he be right now?

Remember the Round Mound of Touchdown? The Hefty Lefty? The Pillsbury Throwboy?

Depending on what you read he was 6-4 and weighed up to 315 pounds.

I came here to post basically this.

This is actually an interesting idea, except that, as a QB his whole life, he probably would not be prepared for all the collisions.

Such a waste of talent... and money.

I actually thought of that guy immediately as I used to be a Giants fan and I remember him as actually being pretty good. He had a good arm and was accurate.

I guess you have to be pretty good if every highschool and College coach is trying to get you to change positions because of your size but you're able to resist that and make it as a QB.
