I used to work at a ritzy restaurant/coffee bar. One of the professors would always have us special order 3 lbs. of Jamacian Blue Mountain coffee. He said that it was simply the best coffee he ever had and wouldn't ever drink any other kind. Looking at Gevalia's website, JBM is about four times more expensive than most of their other coffees. One pound of it is $24.95. Now I am not a huge coffee drinker but have always wanted to try this stuff out. Has anyone had it before that could tell me if it's worth it or just hype?

It's the most highly caffienated coffee bean there is. Very good with Water Joe (caffienated water)...
Tas.

You're confusing it with robusta, which has about twice as much caffeine as arabica beans (normal coffee). Robusta is sometimes used in espresso blends in small quantities.

Jamaican blue mountain, like kona, is nothing special. Just overrated. There are many great coffee's from around the world. The key is getting it roasted fresh and brewed properly.

I've had it a couple times. It is certainly very good, but probably not worth the price.

It's just a touristy kinda stuff. If you are in Jamaica, get some. Don't buy a lot.

Overpriced. No better than a dozen or so cheaper roasts. You're paying for the name alone.

It's a nice change-of-pace. 25 bucks a pound sounds low though ... maybe it's a blend.

True JBM used to be ~US$75-80.00 a pound (it'll have an "Official Seal" on it).

It's about the same as "real" Kona, versus a "Kona Blend" - big difference - the blend is OK, but the real thing a killer cup.

(I also don't whine about the cost of gas to fill up my VW SUV).

FWIW
