New jam bands are really sketchy now I suppose. Umphreys McGee is supposed to be the new force. Tea Leaf Green, Perpetual Groove, Widespread Panic (even though I loathe them), Trey Anastasio (solo stuff is actually good, but not as good as when hes with Phish).

edit: want to give you a link: www.archive.org (has a lot of shows, Grateful Dead, Umpheys, Cheese) for free download. also check out furthurnet, its kinda like a napster for jamband shows.

ahahahahahaha, I jsut started DLing a show about an hour ago to see what they are all about.

I've only heard their single. But they seem to have the serious "noodling factor" down, so that's a definite + for them. Surely worth a search for bootleg material. That guitarist has some potential.

Trust me, if "noodling" is a highlight for you, then you'll like The Mars Volta. They're somewhat infamous for their extended jams and guitar solos. Last time I saw them live, they played for about an hour and 15 minutes, but only made it through 3 songs. Check out their first album -- I liked it better than their latest album. Both are good, but the latest doesn't seem quite as diverse as their first.

umphreys is great (saw them live) and new monsoon is worth checking out

try bt.etree.org

keller williams is also great, and xavier rudd is pretty good.

you can try yonder mountain string band (they tour with some jam groups, bluegrass really though, but good) and the fleck tones

michael franti and spearhead are ok, their music isnt anything fantastic, but theyve got alot of energy live.
you should just check Jam Bands Online and eTrees BitTorrent site for some stuff. the eTree site has tons of live-show torrents.
