The part that I find the most troubling is the tactics used against Appelbaum. He has been called a terrorist. Held without charges. He has been wiretapped. His girlfriend at the time was intimidated and spied upon.
That is insane.
His argument about intentionally leaving networks insecure through CIA / NSA / FBI programs is pretty strong. The google breach by the Chinese using the NSA backdoor is a perfect example of how we were made less secure.
The world losing trust in NIST elliptic curves because of NSA tampering is another big example. RSA and DH are showing their age, and now the replacement standard is considered compromised.
I think an "encrypt the world" mindset is brewing among everyone.
