Was just curious to see if Jailbreaking slows down your iPhone 4, because as I heard from rumors it deos.

I mgiht consider purchasing an iphone 4 if it doesn't.

Also, is it possible to buy an iphone 4 without a plan, and for instance obtain a plan via T-mobile or something of the sort?

I'm already contracted via T-mobile and I would like to purchase an iPhone 4 but I'm apprehensive due to cancellation fees

The actual jailbreaking process doesn't affect performance or stability. Once you start installing themes and a bunch of apps, that's where you may get issues.

As for using the phone on T-Mobile. You will have to pay full price for a factory unlocked unit from Apple directly. If you buy from AT&T, it will be locked to their service and no software unlock available.

I heard buying a unlocked iphone 4 has limitiations via Tmobile service, what kind of limitations?

Would it be worth waiting for the 4S? Do you think that There would be an unlocked version of 4S?

at&t and tmobile use different bands for 3G, so if you bring any iphone to tmobile, it will only use edge. in addition, you wont get visual voicemail and the ability to use facetime.

i think you should wait - its been more than a year since the iphone 4 came out. :)

The phone number has to be registered with Apple to allow FaceTime. Currently, Apple only takes AT&T and Verizon numbers in the US.

Now is also a bad time to purchase an iPhone 4 because there is very high chance the iPhone 5 will be released this month or the next.

Regarding jailbreaking, it doesn't slow down the device in general. There are certain jailbroken apps that certainly would cause slow down, but most shouldn't.

I haven't noticed a difference. Only issues I've had are with themes and some of the activator functions flaking out occassionally.

Jailbreaking was worth it for byte sms alone. That app is how texting should have worked in the first place. Being able to add stuff to the lock screen is great too.

I am getting an AT&T iP4 and going to put it on Straight Talk for $45/month/unlimited everything.

If it works well, will be getting a second one and give them to my kids.

I had almost daily freezes requiring multiple reboots when I was jailbroken. Got a error message that springboard had crashed. Only jailbroken app I had was MyWi and I hardly ever had it running, but I still got freezes and reboots. Two days ago I updated to the latest OS for my phone (4.2.10 for Verizon iPhone 4), and havent had a freeze or reboot since.

I've got winterboard, tetherme, activator, and byte sms and only have problems with my camera launch icon not showing up on the screen about 5% of the time.

in regards to my iphone 4, jailbreaking it hasnt slowed down the phone for me at all. i still maintain the excellent 1.5 day battery life. this is with sbsettings, activator, winterboard (4.0 signal bars, better white icon labels, black ups hd darkness theme), snes9x, iretiner, iblacklist, ifile, hd tweak (uploads to facebook in hd, doesnt cripple it), adblocker, btstack, and fakeclockup. :)
