jailbreakin' my 3g iphone, talk to me...

ok I think I want to roll over to t-mobile with my 3g and save about $40 a month ^_^

I'm running os version 3.1.3 and model firmware is 05.21.01

Questions:

1. Is there software for the mac to allow this jailbreak? Do you need to use my pc?

2. Do I need to purchase service with t-mobile first, get the sim THEN break my phone and install the sim, then cancel my at&t service? Or can I jailbreak and still be on At&T, order from t-mobile and make the switch seamless?

thanks...

If i'm not mistaken, the 3G service T-Mobile uses is a different frequency (band) than the 3G on AT&T and the iPhone 3G is only equipped to handle AT&T's frequency.

The phone world work on T-Mobile, but you would be limited to craptacular Edge.

Currently, your phone can be jailbroken with Spirit (http://spiritjb.com/) but can't unlock. Since your baseband is 05.12.01 (you mistyped in the OP) it is currently unlockable. Baseband 05.11.07 is unlocked, but you have gone beyond that point. The unlock is essential to running this phone on T-Mobile.

There are rumors that a carrier unlock for 05.12.01 is in the works, and may be released around the time the iPhone 4 comes out (June 24th.) I am looking to unlock my 05.12.01 phone as well, so I will reply back if there is any news.

exactly the info I'm looking for. Thanks. Please keep us updated 🙂

Dev Team has pretty much said there will be a JB and unlock for all basebands once IOS4 is out officially.

Yep.

AFAIK, iPhone 4 also is a Quad Band 3G phone also, so one of the bands may work with T-Mobile?

If you use redsn0w to jailbreak you can upgrade to iOS 4 and enable multitasking and custom wallpapers. Then through cydia, get ultrasn0w and it will unlock it to let you use it on Tmobile.

make sure you disabled 3G before you unlock.

wonder how fast an ios 4 is using t-mobile's 2G service. probably pretty miserable

can i do this and still be on at&t for now? I want a seamless transition to t-mobile.

Yup, I am on ATT and tested w/ my g/f's T-Mobile Sim. Needed to test because we are buying my buddies 3gs when he get's his iPhone 4 on Thursday.

Doesn't matter if you leave it enabled, it will still only work on Edge. I just use SBSettings to disable 3g on the g/f's phone to save battery. iOS 4 should work just fine, except when accessing data over the Edge network. There should still be speed improvements over 3.x.

iPhone 3GS

Summary: Currently, PwnageTool only works on previously jailbroken 3GS devices with the old bootrom.

* If you have a Jailbroken iPhone 3GS with the OLD BOOTROM and you DID NOT use Spirit to jailbreak then you can create the ipsw with PwnageTool 4.0 and restore with your jailbroken recovery mode.
* If you have an iPhone 3GS with the NEW BOOTROM this is NOT supported by PwnageTool 4.0

Well, guess that puts me out for the moment. I am on 3.1.3 w/ unlocked 05.12.01 baseband, but I DID use Spirit to jailbreak. Looks like us Spirit users will have to wait a little longer for 4.0.

PS - Cross posting this from the Pwnage thread.
