If the iPhone 5 ever comes out, I would like to use my iPhone 3G as a media player/game players, etc.
What benefits would be had if I jailbroke it?
Can I get longer battery life? Quicker performance?
Or could I just disable all of the phone functions and get the same benefits?

It's pretty beat up so I doubt I could sell it for anything.

I am just rolling ideas around now.

Thanks!

Edit: After looking around, apparently you can just leave the old SIM card in and connect to iTunes and it will be equivalent to an iPod Touch from there on out.

i used to use a 3GS and a 3G as ipod touches and all you have to do is restore as new. no need to jailbreak.

only thing you get is themes

The 3G model is anything but a good game device. Has the ancient ARM11 CPU and crappy GPU... Plus 128MB of RAM. It really is bad these days... For music? Sure. But I bet the new model will have crazy times for listening music (should easily last you a day). So not really worth it to keep two devices.

Just give it away to some young family member. At least you'll get a karma boost or something :awe:
