If Jagr doesn't play both sides of the puck, why should I? Jagr moving to the Caps proved that he can't unite a team or make players around him better...

Many NY teams are guilty of the "lets dump money on it" problem... Knicks and Mets especially. People accuse the Yanks of this all the time but yet they never seem to fall into quite the same utter crappitude. It's all about spending somewhat wisely. You can afford to make more mistakes when your franchise has money but not afford to make nothing BUT mistakes.

I knew Lindros was a mistake... Holik, Kovalev, etcetc, and now Jagr. The Rangers will earn themselves another few decades of no Cup if this continues... and I'm glad. They just better not move the Devils anywhere dammit.

wrong.

did you already forget about the yankees of the 70's and early 80's?? before steinbrenner was temporarily banished from baseball?? they weren't very good, just very overpaid. well, guess what, most of the success by the yankees recently was due to cashman and torre, that pretty much got their way without steinbrenner around. and when steinbrenner came back, he didn't mess with them too much because they were winning.

well, the meddling steinbrenner is back and the losing for the yankees will begin. 🙂

Yeah, Steinbrenner back does worry me... but the case you make isn't entirely true. I became a Yanks fan during that horrible stretch in the 80s but during that time you saw a lot of key players today develop. Jeter, Bernie, Mariano... and a lot of key moves for people as well. So you're pretty much agreeing with my original point... spending money isn't going to work, it's spending it wisely.

It goes without saying... the Rangers and Knicks and even the Mets don't really have that kind of pipeline coming down. The Avs and Wings seem to constantly have new players stepping up big. The Devils seem to do that quite well also by making out well with what they have. You look at mega-teams like the Lakers and they even on the top. There are exceptions where one fantabulously great player makes everyone around him suddenly awesome but Jagr is definitely not the case. He friggin threw his team offsides the first couple of shifts... yeah, he's worth every penny.

i agree with money,

i do disagree with the sentiment regarding the knicks tho, the NBA is a different beast than the other sports, development is not as important and ONE player can have a much larger impact on an NBA team than in any of the other sports, i really think Isaiah turned a corner for the knicks recently. they have a pretty good lineup right now. shoot, match them up man for man the first 8 guys in the rotation and i'd say the knicks are as good as the nets and i'd take wilkens over scott as my coach any day.

knicks are a shoe in for the playoffs and have a real shot at making some noise once they get in.
