Jagged Alliance: Flashback Kickstarter

Repost from last week - http://forums.anandtech.com/showthread.php?t=2316241

They seem to be trying to make a worthy successor, and they've mentioned adopting features from the community extensions and reworkings that were done once the JA2 source code was released.

I'm planning to back it once I decide on a level. Probably just the $25 game, but co-designing a merc is tempting 🙂

Does Full Control have much history with making quality TBS ?

The KS page has videos from their turn-based Space Hulk game and another (Frontline Tactics) that I've never heard of.

It's going slowly, under $10K/day. JA2 is obviously less well-known than Wasteland and PS:Torment. That, or people are wary after all of the failed sequel / 3D attempts made before.

Edit: forgot to mention, ALL pledge levels now include a digital download bundle of the 4 original Jagged Alliance games! Make a $25 pledge for the new game and get JA, JA-DG, JA2 and JA2-UB!

I think the problem isn't the game is less known but the developers are less known. Also the last attempt by bitcomposer was less than a slam dunk.

Well, I'm in for $75. The Boom, Headshot! tier. My first kickstarter contribution. Hopefully FC does good and makes the game JA fans have been waiting for. If you guys havent looked at their KS page lately you should look again. They have added some info and stuff.

You should add another $10 so you can write an enemy line 🙂

I'm a little tempted to spend $200 and add "Charles Carrion" to the enemy name pool, even though I don't read the oatmeal 🙂

Yes, some nice updates for things like bringing members of the JA 2 modding community on board, and promising to at least make game play settings easily tweakable via XML files instead of needing to hack the EXE.

BIA really tired me out with all the munitions and inventory management.
Jagged Alliance 2, and even more so with JA2 1.13 has a decent amount of micro managing; certainly not for everyone I'll admit. So if these guys are really aiming for the JA2 experience as much as they seem to be, I'd expect to spend some time optimizing your mercs inventory, among other similar tasks.

Nah, the beta test part will be enough for me. Once you pledge you cant upgrade that particular pledge can you?

It would be a nice feature to have I suppose. Find a few extra dollars in your piggy bank and add some more to your pledge to go up a tier or two. It would certainly help those devs trying to get the game going if it can be done.

Yes, you can change your pledge value & level as much as you like until the kickstarter finishes.
You have to enter both value then click on the new reward tier - it doesn't do that automatically (or not when I last tried)

Obsidian gave a nice mention with link and the logo in today's Torment update, that brought in $24K of pledges today and it's at $213K.

With only 7 days to go, reaching $350K is still iffy. But maybe enough Torment backers will follow through later.

Power ball is at $360 Million. I'm hoping to hit it tonight and fund the rest of the kickstarter and some future JA sequeals. LOL

Though i love (and still love) the JA universe, i just dont trust this developer. Their last few games were... not ... good.

I too was leary of them. Its looking better and better IMO. This is the closest design I have yet seen to JA2. If they can do what they have been talking about and now finally starting to show some screenies then I'm all for it. Its a gamble for sure. All these games are. I decided to roll the dice once I was sure they were going in the direction I wanted to see. If you dont feel like kicking in that's okay. I would ask you spread the word around though about the Kickstarter. We need all the help we can get at this point.

3 days left and only $254 K of $350 K raised.

If you'd like to see this game made, and get the JA 1 - 2 games digital bundle as a bonus, it's your last chance.

Bump for more supporters. It was cool to hear Ian Currie come out in support for the game and hear his views on it. Interview on the Bear's Pit website.

29 hours left and $40K more needed -- this might happen after all.

Some quotes stolen from the ArsTechnica thread:

"I can't directly speak to Full Control's ability to make a great Jagged Alliance game. But I can say that they are very skilled with Unity, understand game/software development, and can move mountains with limited resources. I don't question their intentions or integrity. I backed Jagged Alliance: Flashback day 1." - Kevin Saunders, Project Director at inXile

"This is my type of game. 🙂 I think these guys really get it and I'm looking forward to this game." - Ian Currie, designer of the original Jagged Alliance games
