patched to version 1.07, from 1.03
It says in the readme file that if you make a file, with a certain file name, and put the file in the correct folder, the game will autosave after each turn. I can't remember the name of the file, but I believe it was something with an extension of .pl which, I believe, is also the extension of the Nero playlist files, cuz that extension is associated with Nero.
Anywho, I've tried putting that file in bout every folder I can think of. I also tried putting a folder by that name within folders. I have the game installed in E:/program files/talonsoft/JA2/(data folder and other files)
The game locks up a couple times a day, and requies this W2K pc to be rebooted, so autosave would be really nice. It gave the same instructions for autosave in 1.03 and in the 1.07 readme.
Also, I had tried the 1.06 patch, and also the Miles sound fix, but the patch didn't seem to install correctly and the game woudn't run. Fortunately, I happened to come across the 1.07 patch. I had played the game a bit as 1.03 (couldn't make it autosave then, either), and done a lot of uninstall/reinstall after bad earlier patches.
If I had been forced to play this game at ver. 1.03, I wouldn't be playing it now. It seemed to not be as much fun, and definitely not as intuitive. But, with the 1.07 patch, it's got me hooked. Amazing how much difference a patch can make. I doubt that there is anything I can do to resolve the lockup issue, but that's not a real pain, if I have autosaves. My guess is the lockup is simply because the game wasn't really written with W2K in mind.
Any other hints/tips appreciated. I'm just now getting into training militia, etc. Lots of little stuff to learn still.
Thanks
