You tailgate someone, expect them to do a brake-check.

True - if you tailgate someone, you have to be prepared in case they perform an emergency manoeuvre, including an emergency stop.

However, it would be grossly negligent and highly illegal for a driver to perform a brake-check if there is someone behind them (at any reasonable distance).

fixed.

I could've sworn that tailgaiting was both highly illegal and extremely dangerous.

Exactly. What is with all these people supporting the *real* reckless driver.

It's the difference between an agressive driving charge and attempted manslaughter, but I wouldn't expect you ****** idiots to realize that.
So doing a brake check is attempted manslaughter? Sure buddy. It's probably better for you to think this, in that it will discourage you from tailgating me because you will think you almost died after I give you a brake check. Not to mention you'll be getting a good dose of an airhorn as well.

Man this thread came to mind last night as I was on a two-lane highway and this Golf zooms up on my tail. Granted I'm passing a slightly slower car and already doing 8 over the limit.

Well I notice there are flares in the road ahead. But I also know the guy behind me can't see anything but the back of my car. So as we near the first flare, I veer right inside the lane to avoid it and he runs right over it sending sparks along the side of his car. After that, he decided to just pass me on the right.

*slaps forehead* If you move away from a driver that is obviously *not* paying attention only to have them drive recklessly behind you. I for one know the correct action would be to *slow down*, or get off the road. If someone felt the need to brake and pull over quickly, and the other driver was so close they also tried to avoid the vehicle in front and had to pull over. I'm sure the driver in the front wouldn't have a judge lambast him for poor driving practices.

The driver in the back was clearly engaging in road rage, taunting the front driver, and utilizing poor driving safety habits. Though I'm sure that myusername would have a had time comprehending that fact.

Anyone who tries to defend the actions of the driver in the pacfica needs to have their license revoked *immediately*, that is of course pending they even have one to begin with...

Wow.

Is anyone else seriously concerned by the OP's actions? Deliberately slamming the brakes on in an attempt to cause an accident, deliberately trying to ram another vehicle off the road?

All this could have been avoided, if instead of antagonising the other driver by sounding his horn.

Antagonizing? WTF do you think the horn is for?

For the love of crimminy do any of the pafica supporters even drive a vehicle? The fact of the matter is, he wouldn't have even had that situation appear had the Pacifica driver not followed him over three lanes! If I was to argue that in court I would claim that I felt my life might be in danger as the driver in the rear was clearly nuts, and he was forced to the shoulder as a result of tailgating. The simple fact that the OP *moved* away as a response to the Pacificas *drifting* (read The Real reckless driving), shows that he is trying to be the bigger man and the responsible driver. The pacifica driver is an idiot, and I would wager anyone who defends that type of behavior probably fits nicely into that category.

No, but I am concerned by your sentence structure.

That was my bad. When I cut the rest of the post I missed the last period.

Yep, I don't know how myusername can say it's easily the diff between reckless driving and attempted manslaughter, when clearly the reckless driving = catalyst for "attempted manslaughter". For every action, there's a reaction. A reckless driver makes his own bed, whether the end result is death or getting a scare.
