So my dad has been wanting a computer, and I found him a laptop on craigslist. The guy talked it up like it was just the greatest. Well tonight I told my dad I would go with him to check it out, and make sure it was worth the 400. The guy lives out in the sticks 55 miles away. We get there and I noticed a green line running vertically all the way up and down the screen on the left side. I ask the guy what the hell that was about and he said he forgot all about it [face_disbelief] I looked at it and he also bullshitted about the specs, the thing was a lot older than he let on.

It happens, next time don't travel so far, especially if you are buying.

how can a thread that wasn't meant to entertain fail?

Way to save your dad there OP. Usually I won't even entertain a drive over there if I don't see pictures of it running and whatnot.

It's the new ATOT nef statement.... and it's long overstayed its welcome.

OP: If you're paying someone that much for something, if they aren't willing to meet you halfway if they live a distance from you, it's not worth it. Don't act like they're doing you a huge favor by selling you stuff for no charge to them.

Good job saving your dad some grief. He's probably done that for you x a million, it's good to give back when you can.

I bought my wife's Acer notebook before Christmas for $350 Yuo can always find laptop deals for $400-500 if you are patient. Why drive an hour for a used device in the first place?

I think legoman was being rhetorical about himself. It's like a personal affirmation I think.

I don't understand why people buy used computers when you can get an HP, Compaq, Gateway, or Dell off the shelf for under $400. It'll be 10x better than a used one and have a warranty.

simply because people became used to four figure laptops being the norm.
