Jack stands: Where to put it?

They say to put them at the prescribed "lifting points" or "support points". Since I don't know what the latter is I presume the former is the specific part under the car on the side that generally has a ridge - the same point you put a car jack under when changing tires. So if that part can serve as the placement point for jack stands safely, where the heck do you put the car jack when jacking up the car? You can go back maybe half a foot but then it's possible, it seems, to end up bending little bits of metal as you lift since that point isn't supported so well...

I just use the frame, either back or front, depending on what I am doing... are you referring to the Sentra or the Max?

on my dads 2000 Max you can jack up the front end right in the middle underneath the grille, there is a lifting point, and then put jackstands underneath each front lower control arm for example, and then for the back of the car, just jack it up in the middle of the soild rear axle and put 2 stands under each side.

Depends on the car, and if you're doing one side or both, and if you want the suspension decompressed or not.

Usually for the front I look for a beefy cross member to jack with and place the jacks close to the lower suspension mounts. On the rear it's all straight axle loving.

They ususally have little metal tabs (that are connected to the frame) underneath the bottom plastic rocker panel (under your doors).

I always used the part of the frame right next to where the tire jack goes. Got to love the old "body on frame" design

Oh come on, put them under anything that looks sturdy, it's not that hard.

Have you looked in your owners manual? They usually have pictures with little circles showing you where you should put the jack stands.

i suggest looking in your owners manual.. they usually have a picture which tells you where your jack grooves are.

Exactly... Look where you're told to put your jack when you change a tire and stick it on that.

Japanese cars have lift points built into the unibody construction. Usually you'll see a little nub right behind the
front tires and right in front of the rear tires on the body itself. That is also where you would place the jack in
case of a flat tire. If you're not sure, check your owner's manual, it should detail where the lift points are.

What are you repairing?

Oh, and make sure your parking break is engaged before you lift the front.

No, no, no. Do not put the jackstands on the rocker panels. By and large, the points for the emergency jack are shaped to fit only the emergency jack, not jackstands. The manual should show both the emergency jack points as well as suppost points for jackstands.

I put it on the "tire changing" spots when I checked out the brakes a while back but wanted to be sure it was very sturdy for changing oil. I ended up using the ramps just now and I've checked both the haynes and the manual and there are no pictures of where to put these. Lots of points "look sturdy", but I don't know for sure which points really are sturdy.

I would not put a jackstand underneath the ridge designed for the scissor jack to change a spare tire.

I will actually use a-arms in front and on the rear axle in back as the lifting point. Jack up the vehicle, then position the jackstand(s)
somewhere along the frame near the crossmember. , then lower the vehicle until it is resting on the jackstand(s).
Think about it - you will need a secure lifting point inorder to lift the vehicle in order to remove the jack stand.
