GRRRRRRRRRRR!

Stupid jackhammers!
They were going nonstop at the dock in Miami. What's the longest you have heard a jackhammer go on for? This has to be a record of some kind.

Every time the music stops all I hear in my head is a jackhammer. If that's not enough I return and what song begins playing? Steamrock Fever!

For those sinners that don't know the song...

damn.. thought u were talking about sex

A jackhammer develops about 6 horsepower. No human is going to take that kind of force. That's all I have to say about that.

I'm not a fan of jackrabbits. I'm planning on eventually getting a Hitachi Magic Wand.

During the summers when I was in high school, I worked for a tent company that rented out tents for fairs, weddings, graduations, etc...

We used jackhammers to pound the stakes (rebar) into the ground. One of our biggest jobs was a monthly flea market where we put up hundreds of tents. And hundreds of stakes had to be pounded. I would have to hear the jackhammer all day (at least 12 hours) every day for a week until the job was completed.

One of the worst jobs was to be the man that actual ran the jackhammers. The things weighed around 70-80 lbs, and you would have to lift it repeatedly all day long to about chest level and pound the stakes until they were just 18 inches above ground. It was a great workout so some guys loved it. I hated it because it was so loud, of course I wore ear plugs, and man did it wear you out. Some guys could go all day, I could only go a few hours. And this was when I was 17-18 and in the best shape of my life.

I've had to listen to jackhammers and pile-driving hammers for weeks on end...non-stop "rat-tat-tat-tat-tat-tat-tat" coupled with the BANG! BANG! BANG! BANG! of a large pile hammer...then you add in the hydraulic vibratory pile hammers...it's enough to make you crazy sometimes...

I ran a spiker (Nordco Model C) on the railroads for a while. It was basically a couple of hydraulic powered jack hammers mounted a foot away from me on a self propelled machine. 10 hours a day for weeks on end. I've had some hearing loss over the years from it.

You've probably heard me talk about how loud the forging hammer presses were at my old shop, that they could be felt on the 10th floor of a building a mile away, but when they went to break up the foundation under one when they were getting rid of them they found a solid block of concrete 15' X 15' by 10 feet deep. It had been done around the turn of the century and no one could figure out why they did it because it was totally unnecessary, but never the less they had an over-sized jack hammer on the end of an excavator arm going for like 3 weeks breaking it up.
