I'm surprised this isn't posted yet. I remember Kemp back in the day mostly because the only "politician" I ever really got excited about was associated with him, Steve Forbes.

I was pretty young, disliked politicians and politics in general, and here came this nerdy businessman who seemed cheerful, honest, and appeared to really love this country and the people in it. I still remember Forbe's old tagline of "Hope, Growth, and Opportunity."

Anyways Kemp influenced a lot of people and his belief that in some situations lower taxes can actually raise more revenue is still controversial. Although fairly moderate, he was a character, one of those oddball politicians that make things interesting.

RIP

Sadly Kemp was wrong about less taxes creating more revenues, but he had one over riding virtue as a politician, he was a happy warrior who carried no grudges or hatreds. Maybe a product of his quarterback days, no sense on dwelling over past busted plays, focus only only on the future, but still a bipartisan role model of a vanishing breed. RIP Kemp, another victim to the the vicious bipartisan disease that cancer is and remains.
