J.J. Abrams' "Star Trek 2" (2013)

Ichinisan

How did I miss the teaser trailer?

[edit] (I guess that's because it's a fan-made teaser...nevermind. [/edit]

Looks like this will have some reference to the Eugenics Wars.

Will it have Khan?

If so, I'm not sure what to think. No one can out-do Ricardo Montalban's "Khan." He became the iconic movie villain. So many A-list actors wanted to play villain roles after that movie, and they all tried to be Khan.

(Yes, even Dennis Hopper as Koopa in the Super Mario Bros movie)

Well... regardless of the trailer we know another one is coming.

I'll see it. The first one was entertaining at least. I'm not an old school Trek fan so I didn't care what they did to it.

I hope the next movie has a storyline instead of "How many pew-pew shots, shaky-cam battles, and lens flares can we fit into two hours?"

How about logistical failures like having a subordinate somehow coax a vulcan into losing his temper and gaining COMMAND of the ship?

I liked the movie, but I had more than a few eye-rolls in it.

That's how Kirk developed his "Talk a computer to death" skills.

Looking forward to it (I know it's a fan trailer in the OP but I assume they're making another one); loved the first one.

Or a supernova that would destroy the entire galaxy.

That wasn't even necessary at all. They simply could have said a sun near Romulus had gone supernova and threatened to destroy it. Old Spock was going to use red matter to blah blah... just as they did in the movie without throwing common sense physics out the window.

There was some silly stuff, but it's Star Trek. I was a Trek fan as a kid, and still enjoy it today, and the movie was actually a decent reboot. I have to think of it as an alternate dimension where everyone looks just a little different instead of having goatees.

The fvck? How can Kahn be the main villain in this movie? No respect for the source material . . . this movie will be crap just like the previous one.

The Enterprise at the time was staffed mostly by cadets as there was an Emergency and they needed crew since the ship had just been finished being built. When the group goes to get on the shuttle captain Pike clearly says, Kirk is 2nd in command if he (Pike) doesn't come back.
With Spock releaving himself of duty, that would naturally make the 2nd in commmand, 1st in command. It was a cheesy way of getting Kirk in command, but by starting at the Academy, they had to figure out how to get him to be captain, No one wants to see ensign Kirk.

This is the plot point that really irked me. Most people however don't know dick about astronomy, so for the general audience I can let it pass. Really, if this movie didn't do well Star Trek was dead. When people go to scifi movies now, they expect big special effects, and lots of action. (Thank you Michael Bay and Transformers 🙁 )
It would have been better if they stated that a neighboring star had gone supernova.

I don't like the idea of Khan being in the movie as an arch nemesis like in ST II. They can just do the 1st meeting of the two and alter it so Khan's wife is killed in the movie because of an action of Kirk thus Khan goes from buddy buddy, to hatred. I can almost see how they can stretch this into a 2 movie thing.

And at the end, he'd be relieved by an actual commissioned officer and go back to being Ensign Kirk. You don't get command of an aircraft carrier when you graduate the Naval Academy. 😛 In the real Star Trek world, it still took Kirk a good decade to make Captain.

Problem. The Eugenics Wars predated Kirks time by a century. Kahn left in the Botany Bay in 1996, Kirk was born in 2233, and didn't encounter Kahn until well into his first 5yr mission with the Enterprise. Going with Kahn as a villain for this movie would just be another slap in the face to every real Star Trek fan. Again, no respect for the source material.

We have an entire galaxy of potential stories...

I know! Let's rehash the same old story but with new actors and a new director, add some Apple-like look and feel and make it edgy!

le sigh
