IYO: What is the point of penalties for crimes

Agreed. I think shooting offenders in the face would do both significantly better than jailtime does.

Yes, and it would cost us taxpayers WAY less money. :D

It's also cheaper to give every criminal the death penalty than to pay for them to be incarcerated for years on end.

It's hard to prove that punishments deter people from doing the crime. How many ppl doing a crime think: "Oh crap, I probably shouldn't do this....I might get caught..." Although in some cases I'm sure that's true, it's hard to prove the mindset of somebody at a particular time.
