I want to hook up my Dolby Digital 5.1 speaker system to my computer with this mobo, but a friend who just bought it revealed that it doesnt come with SPDIF in/out ports! (the newegg pictures show only "REAR" and "BASS" outputs).

Does anyone know how to order these ports? Or how to get them working? Thanks!

I've seen them around a couple times, but it seems like the price was kinda high. I would suggest just buying a different sound card. If I were gonna spend the extra dough for a sound card expansion, I wouldn't want it to be based off of the C-Media chip. Sure it is fine as onboard sound, and is nice to have, but if I'm gonna have to spend money after the fact, I'll just buy a totally different sound card. Hercules has some cheap sound cards with SPDIF in/out ports for cheap over at NewEgg.

It's a add on card and it will cost you around $20. It's up to you if it's worth it.. Here is a couple of links..

Super Audio Card @ Outpost.com

Super Audio Card @ Directron.com

:)

It's really not too bad of deal. Yes there are some cheap soundcards from Hercules and other's, but most use the same Cmedia chip. That card really gives you all the connectivity you could want and I believe it includes an optical cable. :)
