Iwill KK266R or Abit KT7A-RAID

Well, since it doesn't look like the KG7 will be out in time, I had originally decided to go with the KT7A. Now, especially after reading anandtech's KT133A roundup, I am now leaning toward the Iwill. Any comments or suggestions?

Get the Iwill, its better in terms of stability, and its just as tweakable, plus it performs great. I really think the true champion in the KT133A round up is the Iwill KK266.

Iwill KK266 definitely for a KT133A-based solution. If you want DDR, I'd go with EpoX. The 8K7A(+) is a great board. You only get 2 DIMM slots, but 512MB is plenty IMHO, and I'm sure 512MB modules will appear eventually. Also, KG7 will require registered DIMMs to operate properly...

I had a couple KT7A-R's and I switched to the KK266-R...best motherboard I have used to date. It does 165FSB day in and day out...24/7..flawlessly. Also, my 1.2ghz AVIA was limited 1350mhz on the KT7A-R's, but with the Iwill, it will run up to 1450mhz..that's 100 more mhz just from switching boards.

Do not buy the Abit. IWill KK266, if going with an SDRAM board. 🙂

I own the Abit and the IWill. The Abit is a POS.

I have the "R" and version of the KK266 adn regret spending the extra money on the raid. The AMI controller used on it is giving many prople fits when using it as a regular IDE channel. I have given up on it and have it disabled. Here is one thread about the board. There are a lot of threads dedicated to the board.

Check it out.

Yes, the AMI RAID controller on the KK266-R is rather laughable. But so is the HPT370-series controller on other boards. In reality, if you want RAID, your best option is a dedicated controller. And SCSI is the way to go, not IDE.
