For those that are interested, I decided to give the Iwill KK266 Onboard sound a try becuase the only other sound card I had was an onld Creative Ensoniq, and the drivers just sucked. It wasn't supported well anymore. I always got some error about loading some MIDI junk that I didn't have at startup.

Anyways... I know I've seen posts with people wondering about the onboard sound (maybe on amdmb.com?).

SO, I've installed it and tried it on Unreal, MS NFL Fever 2000, MS Age of Empires, and it sound great. Less noisy than the Ensoniq. I'm happy with it thus far, of course I've only had it up and running for about 6 hours. Any other opinions?

I have the same board just waiting on a new cpu. I was kind of wondering the same thing. I currently have a Turtle Beach Quadzilla from my old system I'm ready to use. How would onboard compair to this card for say sound blaster live.

Not sure about how it would compare with soundblaster live?! I've heard that actually some people are having some problems with the soundblaster live and the KK266.

I have actually now seen some problem with Age of Empires II, where I get some "MCI Error" and can't find or load some MM___266.DRV or something. I figured that has to do with the new motherboard... but I"m not sure if it's sound or what? after I click "OK" the game loads and sounds fine, but it seems to be interfereing if I try to play on the ZONE. Not sure what's up, but if I figure it out, I'll give a head's up so that you don't have same problems.

P.S. I have v1.2 of the board, and am not overclocking. I decided against going for the 133FSB and stuff until I plugged in the new T-bird and MB to make sure they worked. Don't want to tamper with T-bird before i even know it works.

I definitely noticed a difference going from my SBLive to the onboard sound but it really isn't bad. Mine has a background his but my other system (same board) doesn't. I think that it is more than adequate sound for the vast majority. It doesn't seem to provide as full a sound like the live (i.e. not as much midrange and bass). My only other problem is that I notice some skipping if I'm doing too much which is something that I'm not used to and that is probably due to the fact that the Live and AWE 64's have their own processor (aka synthesizer). The skipping is more annoying than anything else. Oh yeah, I really wished that they would include bass/treble adjustments in the mixer. That sucks too.

My Cpu arrives on tuesday, think I'll just stick in the quadzilla and go with it. It sounds pretty good and never gives any trouble.

Been running the onboard sound on my KK266R, and running through a Dolby Digital Receiver, it's really quite commendable for onboard sound.
