Hey guys,
Since my last title got so many responses I thought that I'd let you know what I've found out the onboard audio chip.
While the C-media audio chip is MUCH better than the AC-97 standards and Iwill should be complimented for including it. I used to listen to a SBLive and decided that this chip should do alright. WRONG. I couldn't quite quantify what the problem was until I had a friend give me an audiophile CD. I knew some of the bass wasn't as great and clear as the Live.
These audiophiles CDs ROCK. They place sounds at different frequencies so you can tell where the cutoff frequencies are for you system. I found that the C-Media does a terrible job of low frequencies below 70Hz while the Ensoniqs, Live, and AWE64 go down to about 25Hz which is where a LOT of the low frequencies are at. It was awesome to be able to actually not be able to hear sounds below 70 Hz w/the C-Media but be able to hear them with the SB cards. Pretty cool. I'd highly recommend getting these CD's. The only problem is that the CD doesn't have higher frequencies than 1 Khz so I can't comment on the higher frequencies.
ANYONE ELSE UP TO THE TASK.
I will say that the C-Media has some pretty cool 3-D sound effects and is a great chip for most office users but I listen to music all day while I code so I'll be using my AWE64. I jumped in on the Netdirect relocation last week and got BRAND NEW AWE64's for $10. I'm so glad that Iwill included an ISA slot.
Just thought that I'd let you know what I found. Any takers on the higher frequency tests.
