How does everyone feel about the KK266's on-board audio? Is it good/reliable for games and such? I'd like to buy this board and this is the only hang-up that I have with it. I don't want to have to dump my SB Live! for crappy audio. Thanks all.

It works for what it should do. It is far from being SB Live in terms of features, but hearing all the problems the SB Live has with KT133/a boards. It is the same chip on the Guillemot MaxiSound Muse if that helps.

The onboard sound is hardware based, unlike almost all other motherboards that use software based audio, which frees your CPU up.

It is pretty darn good. Not as good as SB Live, but pretty good if ask me.

The on-board sound also supports EAX and A3D! I sold my SB Live when I installed my KK266 and I now use the on-board sound.

hey
i only have 2 speakers connected to the top of the 3 connectors on the mobo and the sound is faint. I have it turned all the way up in win98. any ideas to get it louder? is 4 speakers a necessity?

It has a good high frequency response but it isn't that great for the low frequencies (i.e. 20-55 Hz). I personally got rid of my SBLive and picked up a Montego II and I'm thrilled with it ($19). Yeah, the Live is great and I'll miss the future drivers but I'll cross that bridge when I get there. \
As far as the Cmedia sound goes... Overall, the onboard sound is pretty damned good but if you listen to a lot of music that has bass then you might miss it otherwise it is solid.
Did you guys know that this CMedia controller also supports modem functions? It would have been cool to have that option too.
