Well this topic covers both hardware and software, so I'm sorry if this is the wrong forum for it. Anyway, the folks at Maximumpc forums havent been much help, so I hope you guys can help me hear.

Ok, heres the deal.
Windows 2000 has been installed fresh, I haven't even touched it. It's still at the welcome screen.

I am having endless problems with this Iwill KK266 and the rest of the system. I have installed Windows 2000 6 times, Win98 1, and WinXP 1, and all have had lockups and problems with my USB mouse, and video card apparently. Here is what is running right now.

Iwill KK266
AMD Duron 750
512MB PC133 SDRAM CAS2 Crucial
30GB ATA100 7200RPM WD
MSI GeForce2 Pro 64MB DDR
52x CDROM
8x4x32 CDRW
Sound Blaster Live! Value
3Com 3C905C-TX NIC

Now what is the 100% correct procedure of driver installation and what not.

Windows 2000 is completely fresh, haven't touched a thing.

Please tell me the correct order to install all the drivers.

I'm an Intel person, and I am new at the AMD problems :)

Thanks for your help...

Again, I apologize if this would be more suited to the Windows 2000 forum, I just figured people with knowledge of the KK266 might be of more help here...

Does it have via chipset or not, I am too tired to think.

0) Install modem or NIC driver so you have a net connection
1) Install all windows patches from MS update
2) Install mobo 4in1 and anything like that.
3) Install video drivers
4) Install rest of systyem drivers

AMD...VIA...I hate VIA enough, do you honestly think I would run a SiS chipset, or AlI...I'm not thinking either ;)

It runs the VIA KT133A, I'll try doing it your way...

I've got a 1200 tbird, but need the clip for WBK38...anyway, that Tbird is just gonna make all these damn reinstalls faster :)

Thanks, anyone else?

make sure all your jumpers are set properly on the mobo... I believe the FSB default is set to 100 on the KK266. You are going to have to change this to 133. Also make sure your USB jumpers are set to enable.

i am running a kk266 w/ 1GHz athlon w/ win2k with absolutely no probs. make sure your bios is up-to-date. also, make sure you disable the onboard audio since you have a sound card. when i installed it i did it like this

1. install win2k
2. sp2
3. via 4in1
4. all others

can you use a usb to serial converter for your mouse? i am using a serial mouse, dont know if that is your prob though

my setup:

30GB 7200 maxtor
