Am building a new gaming rig. So far have bought:
Graphics card:
MSI Radeon HD 7870 Hawk
Mobo:
Asus P8Z77-V Pro LGA 1155
RAM
GSkill Ripjaws 8 gig

CPU Is it worth the difference in price to get the I7 2700k vs the i5 3570k?
The i7 is more than 100.00 more at Newegg. I will be overclocking (nothing major) and will be upgrading the vid card in a year or so.
Thanks for your help.

If you had a 7970 then a 2700k might have made sense if money was not an issue. But for your case 2500k/3570k makes more vfm sense.

What is the price difference between the 2700k and the 3570k for you? If the 2700k is cheaper, for me, that would be the no-brainer.

I would go with the Intel® Core™ i5-3570K for a couple reasons but mostly for the fact that when gaming very few games will use more than 4 threads. For this reason the hyper-threading and additional cores have limited value in a gaming system. This means you can go with the Intel Core i5-3570K and use the money that you would have spend on the Intel Core i7-3770K to get a better video card or a SSD.
