Old news, already discussed. And its not due to the TIM it seems.

Same results without the IHS and TIM.

One anectdote claimed that. (that has been reposted in so many places it gives the illusion of data)

Another (from one of the crazy oc people) claimed that removing it entirely didn't work on his set up because the cooling setup wasn't made to provide high enough contact pressure with the missing material. The guy put the thing back with his own paste, and it ran better than stock.

Physics just does not support that the results would be the same with an extra layer or poorly conducting paste in there. Remove the IHS, and provide the proper contact, and it will be cooler. You can count on that. It may not be amazingly cooler, but any test that shows no change, or worse cooling is flawed in some fundamental way (likely mounting and contact on the thinner chip.)
