My 3770k arrives tomorrow, but I don't expect to set it up until saturday. However, my corsair h100 with 4 zalman f3's in push-pull are ready to go. That should give me a bit of headroom for overclocking. Hopefully I get a decent chip.

3770k scheduled for delivery tomorrow, although I admit I won't be overclocking right away until I get everything installed and up and running like I want. I'm not a hardcore overclocker, but I was hoping to at least hit 4.0-4.2ghz on stock voltage if possible. Does anyone know if that's pretty routine to do?

Going to be using a Coolermaster 212, single 120mm fan at first, and adding a 2nd 120mm later when I plan on overclocking.

4.2 will be a breeze. It should do that under 1.0v

Thank you for the quick reply, Don. I appreciate that!

Will definitely let you know what I get it to once it's up and running.

Ok joining and posting this thread too.

Retail 3770k Malay L206B314 from Microcenter Tustin, CA yesterday.

Prime95 v.27.6 x64 with AVX hits 89c (stopped after 30min) on air with a Prolimatech Armageddon and 2 140mm fans.

This new version of Prime95 with AVX requires more volts that regular Prime95 and generates more heat like linX or IBT.

Might go back to Prime95 v.26.6 x64 without AVX...

EDIT: 30 min as above no AVX v.26.6 9c difference @ 4.6ghz:

Got tracking on my 3770K, will post results whenever I get it... but probably on the weekend cuz I'll be all busy until then, dammit.

So, I have a silly question. My Intel 3770k arrives tomorrow. I have a Gigabyte Z68AP-D3 rev2 (Z68 chipset) board sitting here waiting for it. It's compatible with Ivy Bridge with the latest two BIOS's that have been released. My question is, what happens if I install the 3770k on the board with an unsupported BIOS?

Will it,

A) Still let me boot into the BIOS and update as necessary?
B) Do nothing and just not boot?
C) Destroy the chip/mobo?
D) Or crash and burn, destroying everything I own in my apartment with an enormous inferno, and burn my entire apartment building down while it's at it?

Kinda afraid of C the most, cause at least I have renters insurance.

Welp, chip is coming in today. I'm crossing my fingers for 4.6ghz at 80c with IBT, if I can get there stable i'll be happy

what is the default voltage of a completely stock 3570k at load? i can't, for the life of me, find it in any review on the major sites...

The Intel Performance Tuning Plan is available for the 3570K for 20 dollars and the 3770K for 25 dollars. Cheap insurance if you decide to go for 5Ghz on air ;)

http://click.intel.com/tuningplan/

I have mixed feelings on this, I don't feel it helps anything. It takes a *lot* to kill a chip with overclocking, and usually if you're degrading a chip it takes months/years to do so. The big issue is that you will hit an overclocking wall *well before* you get into an area there will kill the chip immediately.

For instance, my Sandy Bridge CPU hit a wall at 5ghz (with admittedly high voltage, near 1.5vcore) and could not go farther no matter what. But it wasn't anywhere near being volted enough to kill it overnight.

Batch L206B468 - Microcenter Atlanta ( Marietta )

Coolermaster 212 + .. Ambient ~ 23 ..

Couldn't get stable at 4.8 with 1.4v, so I'm not interested in pushing it further..

Folding looks to be getting a few PPD more than my 2700K @ 4.6 ..
It is pulling about 20w less from the wall ( than my 2700k ), so I will probably keep this as my folding rig..

I don't really see a problem with the temps with this config ..
