I initially tried the 11.5" Core i7 Sandy bridge Macbook Air when it first came out. I couldn't stand how hot it got at peak usage. Then i read Anandtech's detailed review which showed the full spec 1.8GHz corr i7 11.5" ran as high as 45C at peak usage. I ended up returning the 11.5" and getting the 13.3" MBA because it had better thermal dissipation due to the larger chassis and the obvious bigger screen/battery advantage. I am still interested in a second 11.5" MBA and wondering if the latest Ivy Bridge version does any better thermally speaking. Is Anandtech planning to do a detailed review of the Ivy Bridge MBA's? Any forum members have 1st hand experience with the new 11.5" MBA?

I was wondering this...as we presume smaller nm processes are going to be cooler. However just type 'ivy bridge runs hotter than sandybridge' into Google. Turns out, most it is not a win win for speed and coolness.

Yeah i tried that, and am not happy with the results. Wanted to see it backed by Anand's thorough review snd comparison data with older models.

ivy bridge has a lower tdp and "creates less heat", the trouble with ivy is that the die is just too damn small compared to sandy to dissipate the heat effectively.

basically the ivy bridge air should be cooler than the sandy bridge one, but the reverse is true for the processors themselves.
