So, are you upgrading to Ivy Bridge-E when it comes out next month? Anybody here rich/ballsy enough to get a full blown 12 core Xeon E5?

Where's the "AM3+ or bust" option? :awe:

I assume you mean upgrading from LGA1155/1156? Upgrading from a 3930k seems a touch silly!

Those 12 core Xeons are looking pretty tasty- the 8 core SB E5s were already multithreading monsters, especially in a dual socket machine.

I'm personally upgrading from LGA 1155, but I'm not going to judge somebody who changes PC parts more than he/she changes underwear! ;)

I don't need more than 4 cores and my money are better used somewhere else. I'll get haswell closer to the end of the year to replace one of my computers, but that's it. But have fun tinkering with your new shiny hardware whoever gets it.

couple of things i'm waiting on

1. performance and overclocking potential (I'd probably need to see at least 5+GHz without too much problem)

2. what Mircocenter will price it at, as the MSRP is already supposed to be lower than when SB-E debuted.

that being said, I think there's a fair chance I'll sit on SB-E until Haswell-E.

Where is the 'I already have SB-E and this isn't really an upgrade for me' option?

Will probably try to sell my 3930K and grab a 4930K assuming we see some good OC results. I kinda wish there was a new platform launching with IB-E though.

Where is the, "PC hardware just got boring and i'll need to be put on meds for this" option? 4930K if it OCs like a thing dabber.

It all depends on overclocking ability. If it OC's like a monster, count me in. I'm about 90% sure i'll get IVB-E if it OC's reasonably well - I'm not expecting anything outrageous, but reasonable.

I actually considered IVB to be a great overclocker as well, believe it or not - my 3770k hits 4.7ghz on air without delidding, no problem. Considering IVB-E will be built like a tank (unlike IVB which was designed for quaint sub-10W mobile SKUs), I expect big things with it.

None of the above. My next upgrade is Haswell-e with 3-way graphics of whatever will be available.

I will be picking up a 4930K this autumn along (almost certainly) with a pair of 9970's or maybe even three. I'm going balls out for the monster PC and will keep the current one for friends to come round and use.
