I've tried and tired... But i can't get LINUX! help!!

I need to install linux on my comp bad! any version!
I've tried on a p100 with 32 mb of RAM, a p2-350 with the ati xpert at play.
and now on my AMD 1Ghz T-bird, with 64m radeon, sb platinum 5.1, network card, modem, tv tuner, and ati mach 64 2mb (for dual mon output).
well, i can never get it working!
on my tbird, i can't install it period.

on my other two systems, i can install it, and boot, but no periphials, such as modem, and network card, printer scanner etc.

any recommendations?!?
all i need is to do some bourne shell programming at home.
and maybe try RC5 in linux and see how it goes
 
Get Linux for Dummies 😀

Comes with RedHat Linux, (so easy to use they might as well call it Lindows)
and its pretty easy to follow.
 
Get a book on Linux.
Take your time, install it carefully, learn as you go.
If you are not enjoying yourself with it, trash it.

Have fun!

 
Download Mandrake 7.2 . It will configure everythign for you. then you just have to learn hwo to move around, install progs, and the like.
 
Don't know if ATI has released linux drivers for Radeon yet, but everything else should work (dunno about windmodem only). Maybe you should try harder, linux is easy 🙂 Linux for RC-5 is good idea, somewhy RC-5 client runs faster under linux than under M$-OSes ...

littleprince, get a nice thick linux book from the library. One thing installing linux on dozens of computers has taught me is how to read! But I guess the same goes for Win2k.......

I have to advise you to stay away from a book entitled LINUX UNLEASHED. This $39.95 behemoth actually has typos in an ipchains script file sample. Talk about frustrating for a newbie like me! Damn, that sucked.

But let me second the Linux Mandrake 7.2 recommendation. And if you get XFree86 4.02, it has drivers for the Radeon. If you need some CD-R copies of Linux Mandrake 7.2 I can clonecd them and send them to you. Just let me know.

Linux is a great OS - you just need to know how to use it. Saying it &quot;sucks&quot; because you don't understand it just makes you look foolish.
