Ok I have my next camera narrowed down.

Fuji F30 or

Canon a630/640

Fuji - better low light - ISO 3200 - Usable ISO 1600. . .good low light. Read it clips highlights in day light and you need to adjust down the ev comp.

Canon - familiarity - 10 megapixels for cropping - availability of adapters for putting filters on such as polarizers and infrared. . .and close up rings.

I like the thought of the fuji for inside. . .

I'm familiar with canons. . .

i'd go with the A-series Canon but bumped up to A710 instead of A6x0.

(also, on dell small business section right now there are double discounts. automatic 15% off, as well as additional 10% if you order total is $200-$399 (15% if your order is >400).

It seems great until ISO200 - then the noise skyrockets. I do lots of 'indoor' stuff - and don't want them coming out like picasso paintings. I read 'several' reviews - because the leica lens fascinated me. It is a shame.

I would go for the F30. The 10MP of the Canon is high... but are you sure the tiny lens can even resolve 10MP's worth of data, and even if it can, can it do it sharply?

As far as highlight clipping, it's not really a big deal. Dialing down the exposure compensation takes all of half a second, and it'll stay dialed down until you turn off the camera.

The Fuji can take some good pictures too:

But methinks that in the hands of a good photographer, both cameras can be spectacular. The above thread is pretty much proof that you can do some great things with this camera, as long as you have the skill. Someone else in another thread also posted pictures from a (I think) Canon SD700 that were spectacular too.
