Ive read alot of avsforums and ive noticed that many ppl get replacements!

i've seen in many many threads on both plasma and lcd that ppl are talking about a 55 inc lcd or a 54 inch plasma are "receieving" this tv as a replacment... so did you guys have 3-4 year warranties? or how are you getting these new $2000 complimentary? so on the flip side i heard warranties are not worth it.. but yet it seems so many ppl on these forums are getting their tv's replaced and im guessing thats due to ppl buying expanded warranties?

please fill me in as id like to buy a sony KDL-55EX710, but i saw like 5 ppl in the last 2 pages saying they were getting the tv as a replacment, one guy had an old dlp so... whats the delio.. sorry if im not makign much sense.

I bought a 42" 720p plasma screen in 2006. I also bought the $299 replacement plan for it from Best Buy. Two years later some power thingy on the mainboard went bad and caused a whole bunch of red sparkly items to show up all over the screen. Tech said it cost more to fix than replace so he issued me a replacement number.

Went into Best Buy and they looked at the receipt and said "Okay, you paid $2100 for this, go pick out whatever you want for that price". So I walked out with a Samsung 46" 1080p LCD for free.

Is that the type of information you are asking about?

The tricky parts are that you had to buy the replacement plan with the TV, and you have to have it fail in a way that is not repairable.

So you can't go buy the replacement plan on the old TV that you're tired of, and they aren't stupid enough that you can smash or fry the old TV yourself just to get the "free" replacement.

there are also 3rd party warranty you can get for them as well. people also use those

I buy from Costco. Extends the warranty two more years.

Also, if you buy with certain credit cards, the manufacturer's warranty is extended by another year.

I have a Citi MasterCard that does this.

I got the 4 year with my Kuro 5080 almost 3 years ago. I'm torn if I hope it fails in the next year or not. If it does though, I can most likely upgrade to ~55-60 inch TV or an ultra thin top of the line Sammy LCD.

Most of the Sony replacement stories you hear are from defective models that they set up a replacement program for. Can't remember the specifics but it made quite a few people VERY happy.

I thought it was this way.

Costco doubles the manufacturer warranty up to 1 year. Starts after original warranty ends.

Amex adds up to 1 year to the manufacturer warranty. Starts after original warranty ends.

So sure, you can buy a TV at Costco and pay with an Amex, but if it has a 1 year warranty, your coverage (all combinations) will still end 2 years from date of purchase.
