Sigh. With people like you and bmacd around, I might actually start supporting the RIAA :: vomit :: , since I do want the artists to be able to make a decent living (and 99% of them didin't even before "infringing" became so easy).

I bought 3 CD's to support the artist, after I'd downloaded the songs to have a listen.
Normally downloading is so much easier and cheaper, especially for those without a decent income.

i work to pay my bills, at times living paycheck to paycheck. these guys ride around in bentleys and hummers. do they give back to their respective community? most of the times, no. does the riaa justify charging $20 for 2-3 songs i might enjoy? nope. and then theres the argument, its their artistic talent. its not that, most of the time, its who they know. friends hooking up friends and family with no skill whatsoever with record contracts, just looking out. a lot of people dont deserve the wealth and fame. they are not talented. my friend brought up an interesting point. he knows a group of guys who take beats from cash money (hip hop crew) songs and rap over them, with far better lyrics and rhymes. all these guys work at mcdonalds. and now the riaa wants my $20? if they can put a sticker guaranteeing me that what im about to hear is pure gold, then ill buy. i dont buy a tv just to watch channels 6, 8, and 10. i dont buy a car because the price is right. i buy these things for durability and performance. same goes for my music. i want to buy something and have it entertain me for a few hours. artists can make a few good singles, get radio airplay, and then fill the album with filler tracks. and then they complain? music has gone downhill lately in my opinion, but oh well. thats the way the world turns.

I agree mostly with what was said here, but what about musicians you listen to ALL the time. That you love ALL their stuff. Do you at least buy their CDs? If so, then I support your stand 100%. I can't apply your arguement to all artists. Some musicians actually DO work hard. And I give credit (and money) where credit is due.

Like they don't make money touring at $50-$200 a ticket. Give me a break!

Sure, the 1% at the top of the heap make money even from touring. So stealing a Rolling Stones CD won't have much effect on their lifestyle.

The other 99% though, scape by and make less than most of the ATOTers that have graduated and gotten even OK jobs.

It's the same as with writers, many have to have a "real" job to pay the bills, and only a tiny tiny fraction get the million-dollar book deal.

I've learned to love the local music scene. The no name bands around here give 10x better performances than the "big" concerts I've seen. Pay a cover of $3, go with a bunch of your friends, and have the best time of your life. Most of these are college students or others who aren't really as interested in becoming rich and famous as they are with creating some kick ass music.
