I've never really sat down to watch the original Star Wars trilogy, would I enjoy the DVD Trilogy?

Growing up as a HUGE Star Trek fan, I never really paid much attention to Star Wars. Sure, I've seen bits and pieces of the original three, but I don't really remember them all that well (I haven't see either of the two latest ones). They all run together in my mind and if you showed me a 2 min clip from each movie, I wouldn't know which clip went with which movie...

But, I've got about $25 in eBay Anything Points to burn and I haven't really found anything else that I need to spend the money on. So Star Wars came to mind since I've always been mildly intrigued by it.

So should this Star Wars-lite man take the plunge and give the series a try? :D

Given the above, and having seen them, I wouldn't buy them, but, that's just me.

Time for you to get an Amazon CC so you get more useful points :)

Hard to say, the trilogy was amazing for its time, and groundbreaking in ways that we take for granted now such as the "used future" look that replaced the shiny-clean look of SF movies before it. But like watching any other old "classic" it might seem very dated if you can't put your mind into its world.

Well, I still enjoy the Indiana Jones movies (I have the DVD box set) and old Star Trek flicks. Hey, if I'm still giddy over the cheesy special effects in You Only Live Twice, I think I can live through Star Wars :D

I highly suggest watching all 3 originals with your full attention. Great movies IMO.

The DVD editions blend the special editions changes into the films better.

There are still some problems. Mainly lightsaber color, but the box set is worth it.

I can't believe no one has mentioned this yet:

NFS4, one of the top posters here at nerdcentral.com hasn't completed the most basic of all nerd initiation rites?

I'm shocked. Shocked and appalled.

I can't imagine not growing up with, or not being able to remember Star Wars. :) Hope that day (not remembering) never comes for me.

So yes, NFS4, you must do it. Watch them 100 times over. It is your destiny.

Star Trek > Star Wars

I dig the original Trilogy, the last two prequels kinds sucked though.

I bought the trilogy a few weeks ago - haven't watched it yet. Actually, I bought the bootleg DVD rip of the laserdisks, a couple of years ago and watched that. I'd never seen 5 and 6, just the original 4 (New Hope), and a long time ago at that. I'd have been satisfied with the bootlegs except that they aren't anamorphic, so I bought the new set. Speaking to the OP, well, let me quote from an article in the S.F. Chronicle about 3 years ago where they asked famous people what movie they watch over and over:

Noel Gallagher, rock musician:

`` `Star Wars' (1977), mate. Greatest film of all
time. I went to see it the day it came out in England.
I think it was the first time I went to the pictures,
actually. I've seen it literally hundreds of times.''
