If you want to move up here, go for it. Housing prices in the Anchorage and Eagle River area are ridiculous, or at least they were the last time I checked. If you don't mind living out as far as Chugiak you might be able to get something cheaper. It is about five miles from Eagle River, and about twenty miles from Anchorage.

I lived in the Chugiak area from 1975 to 1985, I believe it has been annexed by Anchorage for taxation purposes now.

That last one is looking out over the glaicer valley from where we started our hike. You can see the top of the glacier in the lower right hand corner.

What's the temperature difference between where you took that last pic and the foot of the mountain? There looks to be a lot of green down there

In either case, I think Chicago winters are brutal enough. Alaska might be a nice vacation/cruise spot in the summer, but I sure as hell aint moving up there
