I've lost the "look" of XP and I can't get it back!

Upon a reboot, after many hours and use, right after I updated Norton AV definitions... I lost the look of XP ...And I can't get it back. How many places could the classic setting vs. the xp settings be?

The obvious, right click the desktop ...properties ...appearance ...pull down window ...NO XP ...classic windows is the only selection. What is up w/ this? I've been using XP since February and haven't run into this one before, nor have I played around to extensively with the themes and appearance bullshit options.

Help!

Thanks, but no thanks! I've got this stuck in the classic windows appearance without out having changed it. I suspect even with Norton AV 2002 and Zone Alarm Pro something gained entry and deleted Windows files. I ran Norton and found no virus. I ran Ad-aware and found nothing. My paranoia is mounting let's hope they don't examine my head and find nothing ...this is giving me good reason to be paranoid.

It's not the "theme" that I'm talking about it's the appearance in that it no longer looks like XP. Call me crazy, just don't call me late for a deal!

Make sure the "Themes" service is running, you won't get the XP looks option if it isn't.

(Control panel -> Administrative tools -> Services... make sure it's running and set to 'automatic')

Try going to Control Panel, then Performance and Maintenance. From there, click on Adjust Visual Effects. You will then see a box that offers some options. Try the first one that says "Let Windows chose what's best" and also make sure all the boxes are checked below. That's all I can offer.

Thanks a bunch! It was in services.

I forgot all about tweaking the services that I did a couple days ago. I had turned the "themes" service to manual and restarted the computer about a dozen times since without affecting this XP style.
