I have done my share of traveling, but as for living... I've been in this town most of my life.

I hear about all these great cities to live and work, and I was trying to think of a way where I could get a job and an apartment in a completely new place and experience the city as a resident rather than a tourist. I am looking for advice/resources that you may have used in doing the same.

I already know the answer "don't go to a completely new place, go someplace where you have links, or ties to". That's fine advice, but I'm mostly looking for how you would go about finding a job in a city you've never been to. Please consider, I'm halfway through college in a graphic design/web development major.

Well make sure you get a job at that city before you move there so you have some security

I've always wondered that myself. It seems like if you are not willing to take a risk you'll be stuck in the same place like the generation before you.

Or - you could what many others did and transfer to a school far away. Though for a lot of us that is not an option.

I moved from Ontario to Vancouver with absolutely no ties (well, a cousin but we're not close) to anyone here.

Found a place on Craigslist in two days with some cool people, had a few job interviews lined up before moving and was able to interview and start within 5 days. Now I'm making new friends and forging relationships on the west coast.

I stayed until finishing my Hons. BA before moving. Now, I have teaching english in Japan lined up for September. If you're happy in your program, stick it out then look for positions in your new city before leaving the old one.

Well that's pretty simple since you're in college. Just get a job with a company based elsewhere. I had friends end up all over the country straight out of college.
