I've had enough of AVG - keep getting BSODed by it

I've tried Norton - and it's massively over bloated.

Panda titanium is even more bloated and slower than norton, and it's spam/phishing protection is a bit of a joke. If e-mail has the word 'ebay' or 'paypal' in it, then it's marked as potentially fraudulent. That's really unhelpful when I expect to get regular emails from paypal and ebay.

AVG - is reasonably lightweight - but it's autoupdate is well annoying (popping up a 3 or 4 windows on top of whatever you are working on - instead of just getting on with it). Oh, and it constantly BSODs my computer. [Yes, i'm convinced it's AVG at fault. I've analysed all my dump files, and out of 8 BSODs, 7 show avg7rsnt.sys overriding the normal 'save file' routines in NTFS.sys - shortly after which NTFS.sys crashes].

I run Win2k, so I want something that will run reliably on that.

Any votes? I'm thinking of Kapersky or AOL virus shield as my next tries - but does anyone think there's one that's massively underrated.


 
symantec = norton. however i think your problems with avg lie elsewhere, i have multiple pcs running it without any bsods.
 
I really like Avast. A bit more resource heavy then Antivir, but if you have a beefy system it's not a problem. I prefer it because it allows you to fine tune things a bit more.
 
AVG causes one of my systems to occasionally reboot while playing games. I installed Antivir instead and everything is fine.

Wrong.
Somewhat the same engine. But totally bloat free! Symantec Antivirus ftw.

One of the best interfaces in the business, lotsa scanning customization, and fast support. And, of course, a good detection reputation.

Although they are different, but Symantec still use a lot more resources compared with Kapersky or NOD32.
 
For my work PC I have NOD32 - no complaints. AntiVir for home, 'cuz I'm cheap like that.

I have heard surprisingly good things about the AOL Virus Shield. But more than anything, sensible browsing and computer use habits are the best defense.
 
If you want free, get AOL Active Virus Shield. Its the best because its Kaspersky.

If your willing to pay, Kaspersky is the best, period. NOD32 is a close second. But frankly, with AOL AVS, I don't see a reason to pay unless you have to have the few things it left out of the Full Kaspersky. Which isn't much

I don't argue that.
But compared to Norton antivirus it's nothing.
 
Who's your internet provider? Comcast provides me the McAfee suite for free, which I prefer over AVG. I also had problems with AVG-false positives identifying, but unable to delete or quarantine, alleged viruses.

Very True, The Corperate Version is very lean on memory usage.
