I've got the MP3 over wireless network blues =(

Hi everyone,

I've got a D-Link Airplus wireless home network setup (that's the 802.11b+ one that's supposed to go to 22mbps, but only seems a bit better than the standard 802.11b). I have my music collection converted to MP3 and stored on the server. This is great because my main computer is hardwired to the network and can play the MP3's flawlessly, but a remote computer in my bedroom (wireless) has problems.

Specifically, when I'm playing MP3's I notice the data streaming over the network at a nice, slow, steady 250 kbs or so. Unfortunately, sometimes there's a brief dip in the signal (a few seconds) and the music stops playing for that time. ARGH! Think of Internet streaming content without a cache, and the resulting delays you would get.

Are there any good music players that could let me cache music played from a source FILE? I currently use MusicMatch 7.5, and that only seems to let me cache Internet streams.

Thanks in advance.

have you tried winamp? i use winamp (2.8, not 3 since it doesn't support the plugin for mp3pro) for streaming and it seems to cache, i am not sure if you can adjust the cache size though. do you have a webserver on your server? if so check this out - Andromeda, it works excellent. hope this helps...

I second what Bob said. I had the same problem with my wireless setup until I moved to WinAMP. For whatever reason, WMP (Windows Media Player) doesn't seem to cache as much and as a result you can get breaks in your music. Hope it helps!
