I'm considering trading my 2012 mustang (base V6) in for a new 2013 Wranger Unlimited. My mustang only has 12k miles on it and I love it, but my dad has been jeeping for a few years now and he has a whole entourage of neighbors he jeeps with pretty much weekly and I would love to go out with them. I also live where some of the greatest jeeping trails in the country are just a couple hours away.

I've got a dealer who worked a nice package wrangler unlimited with all the gadgets I want for 31k (33k MSRP). They'll give me 19k for the mustang. Not bad considering I paid just under 23k.

My wife isn't going to be too excited to hear about this. I also just bought her a new used Sorento like 3 weeks ago. I figure I need to take her on a cruise with the top off to win her over.

You're going to take a new Jeep out offroad? Expect to scratch the shit out of it. :p

Have you considered getting a used Jeep and keeping the Mustang?

Yeah, the last thing I'd want to do with any brand new vehicle is take it offroad lol. For offroad I'd get an older and much cheaper vehicle.

They're going to release a diesel Wrangler

I think they expect high demand for the Grand Cherokee diesel and the Ram 1500 diesel, and that demand will justify the 2015/16 Wrangler diesel.

I'm not so sure the demand is going to materialize.

Plus, I'm not too crazy about another VM Motori diesel in a Jeep.

I am looking at older models in the 10k range as well. That way I get to keep the stang. I just don't have a lot of places to keep the jeep. And I'm not sure about having another vehicle with insurance, and registration, and maintenance, etc.

insurance on a wrangler is highhhhhh, definitely get a quote from your agent first. insurance on my fj cruiser sucked, as they're very similar in price

Just Empty Every Pocket.

Remember, you're going to want bigger tires. And a lift. And your axles regeared. And lockers. And armor. And a winch. And long arms. And ... etc....

Make sure you're budgeting correctly :).

My first car was an '87 Sammy... It has the 1.6l 16valve FI sidekick motor... Now it's just parked at my parents' house as I've been out of the country for a few years... I love it more than any other car I've driven and don't plan to get rid... ever :)

My buddy had a samurai in high school and one of his biggest regrets was selling after high school about 10 years ago. I had another buddy with a 79 land cruiser. Those were so fun playing off road.

I still think that 31k for a wrangler is fucking insane. I can't believe that Jeep sells any at that price. The whole idea is a stripped-down, no-frills on and off road machine right? Should cost about 15k...
