ive got it down to these 2 laptops...which should I pick?

Intel GMA videocard on Sony sucks..it is not very fastest than GeForce 8600 on Asus notebook I think you should go with Asus.
 
The Asus has a better processor, better (though not hugely) GPU, DVI out, is stated to weigh slightly less, and is cheaper. But it's out of stock ATM.

I've no idea how the screens or keyboards compare (haven't seen either in person), and for me either of those could be a big factor. You might prefer the styling of one or the other (again, I haven't seen either in person).
 
If you care more about looks, go with Sony (or check out my BST thread for a more powerful Sony CR that's new and a cheaper). If you care about performance, go with the ASUS. If you are going to wait for the ASUS, you might find an even better deal on either one when the time comes.
