That's probably not something that they should have told you.

In all actuality, they're most likely just telling what "they think".

They need to learn to keep their thoughts to themselves.

Loose lips sink ships (1940s)

Many of us vets have thoughts that could be dangerous to us and others.

What happened that created that phrase?

MCPO is a generic term for Navy E-9. Normally, rate (MOS for other services) accompanies the rank like AVCM, AOCM...etc.

The Master Chief of the Navy (MCPON) is consider as E-10.

So what would he have been, you think?

Not sure, because I was too young for VN. But my guess would be a Seabee MCPO or BMCM...

During VN war, many sailors engaged enemies, but nowadays most of the sailors
rarely engage enemies, much like AF, unless you are in security forces or SEAL Team.

There was concern that the Japensese would find out about deployments from Pearl Harbor. This is when we were trying to recover.
There were spys on the island passing coded messages to subs off-shore. It was one thing to know when a ship was leaving, another to know the cargo and destination.

The departure date/time for our convoys bringing troops and supplies to Europe was information that could enable the German Wolf Packs to better organize their ambush attacks.

Thus the Poster and the saying.

Yeah, that's true. My uncle got sent away to an unknown place, for an unknown amount of time, to do an unknown task. He just got E9 too. I can't help but wonder what he's doing, but the won't tell anyone.
Probably back in division shuffling papers. E9 is pretty high up.
My uncle was E-9 in the Navy with 26 years in service. He was based outside of Da Nang, towards Marble Mountain with the Marines. He lived in a bunker when he wasn't in the field supervising the Medical Corpsmen of I Corps. He used to fly into hot zones just to bring up the morale of his Corpsmen and the grunts. I ran into him and we got drunk after I landed in Long Binh and was traveling North to Dong Ha in search of my unit. At the time he was the second highest ranking enlisted man in Viet Nam. There was an Army Sergeant Major who outranked him due to time-in-service by 2 years. He served with Nimitz in the Pacific in WWII, spent 2 years in Korea and a year in VN. God rest his soul. What a man.
What's E9 and the other designations mean?

Bush is going to war. No, I thought it was just saber rattling. I guess Iraq has run out of time and the children have to die. Bush has to kill them before the whole world opposes him and nobody will let us even overfly. The blackmail and bribes don't seem to be working.

You still have time to join the human shields in Iraq.😉

Didn't you hear, they've left. Apparently they didn't have enough of a conviction to stay until the war actually started.

Which one? "Why must Americans die before you accept the necessity of this war?"

Because Saddam has done nothing to strike us. He has done nothing to support terrorist groups. The only way Americans will be put in harms way is if we invade his country.

Until we let him develop a nuke which he will launch (or sell to someone to launch) into israel which will promptly start WWIII.

Which I'm sure he would sell. This is a man who cares for nothing but his own survival.

Link
CEBU, Philippines ? Islamist terrorists in the southern Philippines who have killed two American hostages in recent years say they are receiving money from Iraqis close to President Saddam Hussein.

Hamsiraji Sali, a local commander of the terrorist group Abu Sayyaf on the remote southern island of Basilan, says he is getting nearly $20,000 a year from supporters in Iraq.
"It's so we would have something to spend on chemicals for bomb-making and for the movement of our people," Sali told a reporter this week, renewing earlier claims of support from Iraq.
The payments, while small, provide additional evidence of a link between Iraq and the Abu Sayyaf ? a group with long-standing ties to al Qaeda and its global terror network.
The boast of an Iraqi connection was taken seriously after the expulsion of an Iraqi diplomat from Manila last week amid charges he had been in contact with the Abu Sayyaf by telephone.

It is said that Saddam's net worth is about 2.5 billion dollars and I'm wondering what other terrorist groups he is funding.

So what would he have been, you think?

If he was stationed with Marines and supervising the medical staff he could have been HMCM (Hospital Corpsmen Master Chief).
