That's probably not something that they should have told you.

In all actuality, they're most likely just telling what "they think".

Yeah, that's true. My uncle got sent away to an unknown place, for an unknown amount of time, to do an unknown task. He just got E9 too. I can't help but wonder what he's doing, but the won't tell anyone.

Probably back in division shuffling papers. E9 is pretty high up.

Bombing in Iraq isn't out of the ordinary. It's rather common to bomb anti-aircraft and radar facilities in the no-fly zones.

True.

Also, stebesplace, average military troops don't know that date of the attack.....and even if he did, he should be fully aware of this little thing called COMSEC.

I seriously doubt many civilians know the exact date of attack either.

My uncle was E-9 in the Navy with 26 years in service. He was based outside of Da Nang, towards Marble Mountain with the Marines. He lived in a bunker when he wasn't in the field supervising the Medical Corpsmen of I Corps. He used to fly into hot zones just to bring up the morale of his Corpsmen and the grunts. I ran into him and we got drunk after I landed in Long Binh and was traveling North to Dong Ha in search of my unit.

At the time he was the second highest ranking enlisted man in Viet Nam. There was an Army Sergeant Major who outranked him due to time-in-service by 2 years.

He served with Nimitz in the Pacific in WWII, spent 2 years in Korea and a year in VN. God rest his soul. What a man.

A couple newspapers are reporting the start to be on March 13th-14th. I'd put a bet on it. Let's go already!

Best wishes and support for your friends kicking ass over there, stebes. Be proud of 'em- wish I was there.

This party started rockin around February 16th. Bombs and Missiles intermingle with the locals pretty regularly now.

I think that he works with air defense, being in charge of networking the SAMs together and such.

Yeah, my Uncle John was in Vietnam. He was in a MASH-like unit (sorry, I don't know a whole lot about medical stuff in the military). I don't ask him about it, because I don't want to upset him. He's been 30 years I think.

I have a huge amount of respect for him.

Gee, I thought we were going to let Iraq take their own sweet time at disabling the weapons that they never claimed to have.

If war breaks out next week, it will be none too early. Rock on U.S.A. - bomb 'em of you got 'em. 😉

Personally, as an individual who has held a security clearance in the past, I don't feel that "friends" in the military should be disclosing any type of information that could put the U.S. at risk - even if it's as simple as "we could be at war next week." All it takes is small snippets of news like this to get released to the media where they can disseminate it - right to where the Iraqis are listening to their radios or watching their TVs and hearing/seeing this information. Fortunately, the "true" details are only known by a dozen or so "top" officials at the Pentagon.

Yeah, you're right, normally it is called OPSEC. The only reason I said COMSEC is because,
stebsplace stated that his buddy communicated (what mode?) "date of attack" to him.
Which I serious doubt his buddy knows the exact date.

Wow! He sounds like the guy in When we were Soldiers.

They need to learn to keep their thoughts to themselves.

Loose lips sink ships (1940s)

Many of us vets have thoughts that could be dangerous to us and others.
